Please help me find a fruit+patchouli scent for my girlfriend

Good morning ladies, I need a bit of a hand picking out an upcoming birthday gift for my girlfriend. She's relatively inexperienced with perfumes and has pretty much stuck to celebrity scents, but she's looking to broaden her horizons and I'd love to help. But my knowledge of women's scents is incredibly lacking. She likes fruity scents, and patchouli, and hates florals. I know that's not a lot to work on but any help or recommendation would be much appreciated! I've got about a month to find something good, and I have access to sephora, Macys, and Nordstroms so if it's a good designer scent I should be able to give it a sniff and see if she'll like it before I blind buy it.

Miss Dior Chérie comes to mind spontaneously, and also Cabochard - loads of patchouli in there, and leather as a bonus.
Good luck on your quest!

Miss Dior Cherie was the first one that came to mind for me as well. I admit, I am not a fan of this scent. A lot of women--especially younger women--absolutely love it. It seems to be the exact combo you're looking for, too.

A couple others:

Gucci Flora (don't fear the flowers!)

Ralph Lauren Romance

Add another vote for Miss Dior Cherie.

Others to try:
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle
Badgley Mischka (original)
Tom Ford Black Orchid
Tom Ford White Patchouli
V&R Flower Bomb (it is not really very floral)
Estee Lauder Pleasures Delight

Thierry Mugler Angel Sunessence

I never realized how much I like this category - I'm loving all these suggestions! I've never tried Badgely Mischka or Romance, but I will now!

I want to add Keiko Mecheri's Ume - rich plummy patchouli, and Mauboussin by Mauboussin - arresting plummy patchouli. And it's been a while, but if I recall correctly, Libertine by Vivienne Westwood is a fruity-chyprey patchouli that's quite nice....interesting nice.

Came to think of Diamonds by Armani too in this category.

Oi, this would be a tough one for me because i can only smell three fragrances at the mall and then I'm done (I lose my sense of smell altogether).

i'm goign to assume your girlfriend will be the same way, and therefore must 'chose wisely', as they say.

IMO, pickins are slim at the mall for patchouli scents, as these are not commercial heavy weights like the celebrity fragrances you mention. Nordies is your best bet, but even so realize that they only carry the commercial stars of each house (My nordies only carries three Guerlain fragrances, GASP!)

honestly i would go online to Lucky Scent and buy 4-5 $3 samples, picking Juliette has a Gun's Lady Vengeance (patch/rose), Francis kurkdjian's Lumierre noir pour femme (patch/narcissus), A different company's Sublime Balkiss (patch/blueberry wood), il profumo's Patchouli Noir (patch/woods), and something from the L'artisan line.

Enjoy! kari

Please, get her samples of Calvin Klein Euphoria -- red berries+ patch and Sonya Rykiel Original (sometimes called Pullover, in a dark orange box) -- pineapple, tonka bean and patch.

I believe the original Prada for her was a light patchouli. It is easy to wear & easy to like.

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far! I know you can't force someone to change their tastes, so I have to operate under very strict limitations when buying perfumes for her. I'm trying my best to avoid anything with prominent florals, despite the fact that I love florals on women. So far the best suggestions seem to be Prada for women, Liberte, Euphoria, and Cabochard. She's worn Angel before and loved it, so I am also going to try and find Angel Sunessence and see what that smells like.

If you choose one brand go for Thierry Mugler and search all the Alien Series(i suggest Alien Liqueur,no patchouli but a nice rum note ).
As far as a single perfume suggestion,i think a very promising youth scent is Si Lolita by Lolita Lempicka.
Good Luck.

no... keep away from the synthetic T.Mugler stuff !!!

try Dior Midnight Poison ...it has some rose, but it smells like sweet creamy fruits in contact with thick "pathouli night".

Cabochard is a nice suggestion, though not too "patchouli-ey" but needs a certain taste...

And one more vote for Voleur de Roses by L'Artisan Parfumeur great great great, but it's more roses than pathouli in this one...

Alien Liqueur by Mugler has nothing to do with synthetic stuff and so goes for the EDT.The note of Rum in Liqueur gives the perfume another dinension.
As for the smell of rose in Midnight Poison ....you can search but hard to find...

I'd like to add another fruity-patchouli:Mauboussin by Mauboussin.

Gucci by Gucci - the one in the heavy brown bottle - there's a great review of it here: Now Smell This

Molinard Nirmala is by far my favorite of the fruity patchouli combo. Aqua Allegoria Pampelune is grapefruit, neroli and a touch of patchouli.

Wow, am loving this thread!! Exactly my taste.
OK, some suggestions if you are still looking? or ideas for another time?

My fave:
Coco Mademoiselle. Amazing!!

Others I like:
Libertine
Ricci Ricci - this is unusual, fruity but love the patchouli
Prada - the pink one, very heavy on the patch on me, not floraly at all though
Miss dior cherie - really fruity with patch!
Calvin Klein - euphoria

Hello! You have to try John Varvatos for your girlfriend! Tropical fruits with mimosa and a gorgeous honey/patchouli base.

I second Cacharel's Liberté, if you can find it. It's candied orange peel & patchouli. I have a small bottle - it was a Marshall's $10 bargain purchase - and I really enjoy it. Good ol' Angel has berries + patchouli. Estee Lauder's Pleasures Delight is patchouli + strawberry syrup.

Why? I mean Y by Yves Saint Laurent.

If she craves hard core patchouli, like some crave hot jalapeno peppers, then get her Givenchy Gentleman.
But since she's not a member Basenutters good luck trying to explain why she should wear a man's scent.

Or you could PM our own Ayala Moriel--she'll come up with something.

Cheers,

Mario
