BMM10 The Road To The Final Spritz Creed Regional Final

Were back live at the James Henry Creed Fieldhouse in London where the Creed Regional Final has just ended. Im Somerville Metro Man your host on The Road To The Final Spritz. The Creed Regional final was a matchup of the top two seeds in the region, the #1 seed Guerlain Vetiver and the #2 seed Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan. Both of these bottles fully expected to be in this position and both of these bottles believe they have what it takes to lift the gold at The Final Spritz. For one of these flacons that dream came to an end.

Neither fragrance found an easy road to this regional final as the Creed Region was arguably the most difficult region in the tournament. Guerlain Vetiver opened with an easy victory over Chanel Egoiste Platinum before two tough battles with Creed Green Irish Tweed followed by Yves St. Laurent M7. The two-point victory over M7 had the Mean Green full of confidence that they could take anything that The Sultan could throw at them.

Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan had an easier road with convincing victories over Calvin Klein Obsession for Men and Chanel Antaeus before getting into a real close one with Aramis Havana in the Scented Sixteen. The Sultan escaped with its own two-point victory and took as much confidence from that close game as Vetiver had from theirs. The extra bit of energy for The Sultan might be that they would like a little revenge over the House that prevented them from winning at The Final Spritz last year. Even though it isnt Habit Rouge on the other side of the boutique it is still a Guerlain and they would take some satisfaction out of eliminating the last Guerlain standing.

The arena was evenly split between the golden turbaned fans of Ambre Sultan and the green t-shirt wearing fans of The Mean Green of Vetiver. Both bottles took the floor with a determined glint in their flacon and their nozzles screwed down tight. The early going saw things stay tied at 10 but as we approached halftime Ambre Sultan started to hit from outside and Vetiver looked a little surprised that The Sultan had abandoned their inside game. As a result The Sultan went into the halftime break with a three point lead, 29-26. The Mean Green clearly made some adjustments as at the beginning of the second half as The Sultan was no longer getting the open looks from the perimeter. Even with their defense now handling things The Mean Green couldnt eat into the lead and with a quarter to go still were down by three at 37-34. The added defensive pressure must have taken some of the power out of Ambre Sultans atomizers as all of a sudden they looked a little slow on the floor. This only seemed to inspire The Mean Green as they started overpowering The Sultan on both sides of the floor and with five minutes to go took a one-point lead 38-37. Ambre Sultan lifted by the cheering support seemed to get a little spring back in their nozzle but it became a holding pattern for them. Vetiver really applied the pressure now they had the lead and with a minute to go led by three 45-42. Ambre Sultan did a masterful job of trying to get back into the game to send it to overtime but in the end fell short, 45-43. For Ambre Sultan this had to be tough, once again tasting bitter defeat at the spray of a Guerlain. For Vetiver they have always felt they were the best bottle in all of Guerlain and having a chance at The Fragrant Four to prove that is going to be their top priority.

Remember to keep voting and watching as only you have the ability to determine the winner.
When we return well be heading to Glasgow and The Guerilla Dome for the Comme des Garcons Regional Final between Dior Eau Sauvage and Tauer Perfume LAir du Desert Marocain.
Until then, I'll see you back here on The Road to The Final Spritz.

SMM should receive a special Basenotes award for these reports along with Bluesoul for organising this incredibly engaging and utterly barmy annual event.

I salute both of you.
