Surrati - Tom Oud - a gorgeous oud oil from KSA

I ordered Surrati Tom Oud from zahras.com this morning after wearing it a few times from a sample they sent me. It surprised me how much I enjoyed it when I sampled it - take Tom Ford's Oud Wood, add a bit of white musk, a soft floral note, and a touch of sweetness in the drydown (which, by the way, takes a whole day to reach) and you'll have it.

I know (from what I've gathered) that Surrati is a relatively small company based in KSA (and pretty hard to find in the west) with a website that would make the geocities creators cringe, but has anyone else tried their offerings? I searched quite a bit and found only a handful of responses.

I guarantee a lot of people here would love this Tom Oud that I ordered.

DO YOU HAVE A LINK TO THAT PAGE BECAUSE i CANNOT FIND IT ANYWHERE

They don't have their Surrati catalog up yet since they just started carrying them. The Surrati website is an abomination: http://www.surratiperfumes.net/

I just tried this today and wow, to me this is a perfect copy of Tom ford's oud wood! no wonder they called it tom oudh! This means that I have to get some of this stuff cuz tom ford's oud wood is my favorite.

any info on pricing ?

Bought one and it is beautifully smooth and lasts ages.

Here is the link

You can't beat that price can you? personally I find it to be a bit sweeter than Tom Ford's and without as much white smoke. Being an oil, it lasts and lasts all day. The GF wore it nonstop for a few days when I first got it.

Which is the cheapest place to buy this?

from Zahras or Surrati's website (which by the way is a nightmare to navigate) or ebay?
that ebay item is from zahra and she's offering it at the same price if you buy from ebay or buy directly from them. As for the surrati web site I don't think you can buy from there!

Surprisingly good, especially considering most oils stay pretty close.
argh another one to try
wondering if anyone else has a comment to add
post #12 of 131
Anyone else tried it ?
Well you have my attention. I just may have to treat myself.
I've never ordered from Zahras before. I take it they are good to deal with?

Yep, they're great. Just send them an email with a list of what you want, they'll send you a paypal invoice, and away it goes. It'll take a few weeks to arrive. They're really good with communication and will reply to emails generally within a day.

Hey jrd4t.

Thanks for telling us about this oil. We guys in Australia is doing a split on it. Hopefully it is every bit as gud as Tom Ford Oud Wood. Is it 90%+ similar to TFOW ?

ohhmygod
I got a bottle of this today to split it with my fellow aussie basenoters.

I have to admit that this is astonishingly identical to Tom Ford Oud Wood. I can't tell one from the other. Though I am speaking from my memory of Tom Ford Oud Wood, I'd do a side by side one of these days to confirm that. Sillage, on my skin is moderate at best, a trait that it shares with TF Oud Wood.

I think this is a nice oil, even more so at the cheapish price. This will serve a wonderful purpose of layering everytime I wear TF Oud Wood.

Thanks to jrd4t for the heads up.
It really sounds a great oud scent. Do they have smaller sizes? 100ml of oud oil would last me two lifes...
I wouldn't mind splitting with anybody in the US.
Gupts said its not too potent. So probably last you only 1 lifetime )

BTW gupts will send out the decants to us soon (yay!) then i'll post my impression as soon as i got it.
This sounds wonderful! Thank you for sharing guys, I am ordering one this week.
anyone else have input on this?
Let's bring this one back up. I believe I am getting 2ml in a trade with a fellow BNer. He stated that it's as good as TF Oud Wood. I have Oud Wood so I cannot wait to compare.
Damn, 100ml of pure oil for $48 is damn near impossible to pass up. Now to learn about this whole decanting thing....

Would it be recommended to mix this with some alcohol to put into an atomizer?

I just ordered the biggie. Let me know what you'd like to do! Keep in mind that I'm a n00b at dealing with the stuff, but I'm glad to spread it around.

It's just like Oud Wood. :P Slight different but only slightly.
How is it compared with Oud Blend by Firmenich or Oud Base by Givaudan?

Im not too sure because the oil is a mixture of essential oil and carrier oil. Some experts here will give u their views on that.

I havent tested this myself but if u gotta chance to smell TF OW, its 95% identical.

We have Surrati here in old downtown Dubai (in Murshid bazar). I'm checking them out this coming Friday. I hear they have many TF in oil form. If only I'd find TV or CA. I know for a fact that Tuscany Leather is available at many vendors there.
This ebay seller has a few interestingly cheap bottles of EDP's. The "Tom" rendition looks interesting, but the Oudy Woody really has my attention. Anyone try this?
Aromi you are right, that Oudy Woody looks interesting...and is really cheap too.

Can you please let us know at least the name and the associated TF ? Cheers mate !

I may have to pull the trigger on this one....
These should be available in my area here in Saudi Arabia. I haven't seen them, but I haven't looked for them, either. I'll see if I can find a shop that sells them and report back. Unfortunately I'm not that familiar with Tom Ford products although I do own Grey Vetiver, Italian Cypress, and Tom Ford Extreme. But at least I will be able to comment on the oils themselves.

Paris Gallery must carry the TF's private blend collection. The mass market ones you have are quite good.
Has no one tried Oudy Woody ?
Unfortunately our local Paris Gallery doesn't carry them. The Dammam/Khobar area is like a backwater compared to Riyadh or Jeddah. I might check Bahrain. But I should be able to find the Surrati oils if I look around a bit.

I still find the Surrati website about 99% non-functional.

The Oudy Woody does look good..... hmmmm.......
Wow, Zahras must have it good. How can she afford to sell Ajmal perfumes at such a low price? (17 dollars for 100ml Neutron EDP?)
Neutron is horrendous. So many of these fragrances by Arabic houses are 3rd rate wannabe french scents. Zbaleh is the word to describe them. It means: garbage. For an overseas person, it's so hard to separate the gems from the stock.
I would imagine as much. Still, that was just an example. Dahn al Oudh Moattaq going for something like $128 is not too shabby either.
Hmm...zbaleh...I suppose that's better than khara. ;-)

I don't like any of the European style frags I've tried from Arabic houses. I haven't sampled many, but after those first few tries I never bothered again. Some of them may be good, I don't know, but I tend to stick with the traditional Arabian style perfumes from these houses.

I contacted the ebay seller and asked about Oudy Woody. She informed me it is sweeter and lighter than Tom Oud due to it being a spray and Tom being oil. Oudy Woody also has a Cambodi influence whereas Tom Oud has Hindi .

Since I'm not an Oud guy, I'm not quite sure what that info tells me.....but I'm still going to get the Oudy Woody just for the hell of it.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! I find 'khara' very accurate to describe Caron's new fragrance, Secret Oud. It opens with that fecal note.. Total YUCK. How weird that some fantastic oud oils tend to have that sharp caca notwe LOFL

It is indeed identical to TF Oud Wood. I don't regret my split at all and I may even buy the Oudy Woody simply coz its damn cheap
post #49 of 131
I am going to purchase the Oudy Woody today. 100ml EDP for $27 plus shipping is something I'll risk.
Congratulations, AE!
Will you report back?
Apropos, Oudy Woody is a real cheesy name, isn´t it?

Lol....yes sir....it is a bit weird, but I have a hunch it will be worth the $$$. However....I have been known to buy an atrocious dud here and there....
I´m interested in Oudy Woody, too and I´m curious about your experience!
Good speed, glorious scout!

I shall report back my friend with the sordid details whenever I receive it. I believe it may take a few weeks due to its location.
hey gang, i bought it blind a few months ago based on this very same rave review and based on a really quick sniff of Tom Ford's original which i thought was neatly done. Im a big oud fan (the real deal) and although tom's was definitely not in the same ball park it did seem a nice substitute for the 200 euro per tola oud. especially seeing that the price for Surrati is only 50 bucks or so a blind buy wasnt something to worry about too much.
I received it > applied it >cried a little >washed it off.
to me it is a horrible horrible overtly synthetic concoction. the oringal from TF wasnt THAT much better if memory serves me right, but this pushed the boundaries of what i can tolerate.

In short, i wouldnt recommend it UNLESS there is someone you really dont like! you can give it to them on their birthday and force them to wear it since you are sooo curious to see if they will like it
post #55 of 131

You ordered it from Cambodia, you audacious guy?

Have you guys tested any of the Surratis yet?
Not me.

I'm not sure where to find them locally, if they are even available here. I'll have to poke around a bit to see if I can find a shop that sells them.

I tried it last night before going to bed. I had played golf earlier in the day and did not want to go to bed like that, so I took a shower and then apply some of this to my chest. I was first surprised to fell the warmth of the content in the bottle on my skin and how it did not disperse as a normal spritz would. When I ran my hand through it, I realized that it felt oily. I guess I had not realized that this was an oil and not EDT or EDP. My skin absolutely absorved it like nobody's business. It had a close similarity to Tom Ford's Oud Wood, but I would not say an exact copy. In the Am, I still smelled a faint aroma on my skin which I think would have continued all day. So, Today I decided to order the whole 100mls from Ebay. If anything, this will be a going to bed frag for me. It's soothing and relaxing. I really liked it. I actually wanted to spray some on my sheets but was afraid to stain them. I will definately layer it with something else, maybe Tuscan Leather, Bond Oud.

JRD4T, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Really? I think this stuff is horrid. As mentioned in the opening post, Tom Oud has some white musk, too much I might add. It dominates the opening and covers the oud. It's completely without tact. Oud Wood, however, is subtle from the top and fantastic til the end. Even if it only lasts a few hours, it smells so much better than the rip-off. This stuff is like trying to remove the color from beer...it's unnatural! If this is supposed to have good longevity, I'm going to scrub before it's too late, it's blech!

Do tell us when the Oudy Woody arrives.... $27 for 100ml is not a huge risk I would say. The name is no cheesier than Oud Wood.

Maybe we have an underground cult frag in the making...
