BMM10 The Road To The Final Spritz Fragrant Four Game 1 Recap

Welcome back to The Road To The Final Spritz, Im your host Somerville Metro Man. Four bottles and three games left to determine who will be the number one fragrance of 2010. The first game in the Osborne Olfactory Arena, or as we like to call it the O-rena, here in Basenotes City is between Tauer Perfumes LAir du Desert Marocain and Chanel Egoiste. Both of these bottles made their way here with impressive double digit wins over their Essential Eight opponents. LAir du Desert Marocain employed their Sirocco Offense and blew away their fourth straight opponent, Dior Eau Sauvage. Egoiste had a similarly easy time in disposing of Azzaro pour Homme by fifteen.

Both bottles came into this Fragrant Four match on a roll and both bottles had to be feeling good about their chances. LAir du Desert Marocain took the floor surrounded by their fans making the trademark Whoooooooosh! sound that they use whenever their bottle is on offense. That constant low hum has made many a lesser bottle look around the boutique wondering what was happening. Egoiste entered in its usual confident almost stand-offish way but that self-confidence had been elevated by having beat the defending champs, in Guerlain Habit Rouge, two rounds past.

Right from the opening spritz LAir du Desert Marocain wound up the Scirocco Offense and, as so many that have faced this offense, Egoiste couldnt stop LAir from scoring. It was a good thing the single-minded flacon of Egoiste was able to stay focused and halfway through the first half only trailed by one, 18-17. The trademark of the Scirocco Offense is, like a desert sandstorm, it never stops until youre worn away. That seemed to be happening as the first half wore on. You could almost start to see the sandalwood base of Egoiste being steadily eroded. The halftime buzzer seemed to give a needed rest to Egoiste as they faced a 24-20 deficit. In contrast LAir du Desert Marocain seemed to leave the court with a bounce in their step carried off by the Whoosh! of the fans.

The second half began just like the first with Egoiste keeping even with LAirs early pace but this time the breakdowns started to happen much earlier for Egoiste. About a third of the way through it was a ten point margin as LAir du Desert Marocain led 38-28. Egoiste seemed to come out of a timeout at that score determined to do what it took to get back into the game but every time it looked like they might string a few sprays together, LAir du Desert Marocain would take it back to double digits. At the end an exhausted Egoiste was left depleted on the floor as LAir du Desert Marocain celebrated their fifth double-digit victory of this tournament 43-32.

One more Fragrant Four game to go between Guerlain Vetiver and Serge Lutens Chergui.

Remember to keep voting and watching as only you have the ability to determine the winner.
Until then, I'll see you back here on The Road to The Final Spritz.
