Something dry, bitter and warm? Bois d'Ombrie with less iris?

A frag with a bit of herbal bitterness and bite to it can be so refreshing in hot weather. The bitter herbal angle of Goutal's Eau du Sud is a summer fave, and I've been hoping for a while to find something similar but with more depth and less citrus.

I've been coming home the last few days and putting on a bit of Eau d’Italie Bois d'Ombrie from a sample, and really enjoying it. If it were just tweaked a bit I think it might be a wonderful summer frag. And maybe it already is. The dark woods and bitterness make it a cousin of SL Chergui, except more airy and herbal as opposed to Chergui's warm/bitter spiciness.

My complaint about Bois d'Ombrie--if I have one--is that the iris is maybe a bit too forward. Might it be possible to get a similar effect of depth and warmth with less iris, or with a really dry amber note or something like that? Maybe what I'm imagining is something related to Ambre Fetiche or L'Air du Desert Marocain but with an herbal-green angle. So far Bois d'Ombrie is the closest thing to this that I've encountered.

I tend to agree with scent, you need to try some of Duchaufour's other scents since his angle on Bois d'Ombrie can be felt in his other creations like Timbuktu and (it's twin brother) Dzonghka.

I'm also going to go out on a limb and suggest a real 'sleeper' in my opinion, that was the 1st scent that popped into my head when I read your post Stroll: Vinaigre de Toilette by Diptyque. Imagine a less sweet, less powdery and slightly tart version of L'Heure Bleue by Guerlain - that's what VDT smells like to me. I can't wait to own a bottle so I can splash some on, on those hot afternoons when I arrive home in the same sort of mood you've described. I asked for (and received) a sample of this when I was in NY at the Diptyque boutique.

Great suggestions, thanks. I do need to try Timbuktu again with this particular use in mind. Vinaigre de Toilette sounds like it's worth a sample. Racer I've never heard of--I'll check it out. Many thanks, all.

The first time I wore Timbuktu I didn't like it, and yet as soon as I encountered someone, they complimented me on it. I want to revisit it again soon.
