"The Genre You Love" Questionnaire!

Thread Starter
So, there's a type of fragrance you love. Maybe it's a note - like iris, vetiver, leather, etc; maybe it's a genre - chypre, fougere, citrus, etc; house - Guerlain, Dior, Lutens, etc. And you explore it at any given opportunity.

Some of us are very evenly spread out, but some of us obsess! And I know I'm one of those. Feel free to share your obsessions, be they one or many.

Hi C Rose! If you don't mind a rich and rather sweet gourmandy type of thing, I'd highly recommend you try Guerlain's Iris Ganache from their L'Art et la Matière line. It's the only really warm and creamy iris fragrance I know of, as they tend to be more cool and powdery. I could just swim in the stuff I love it so much. Another beauty is Iris Poudre from Frederic Malle/Pierre Bourdon - very luxurious, plush and powdery, a lot more femme than the sleek Iris Silver Mist but I find they share a particular accord....probably the iris!

Oh, you're in trouble! All three are magnificent! I actually wore Goutal's Tubereuse today; pure tuberose and nothing more...nothing more...siiiiggghhh!
And Vega...well imagine Chanel No. 5 EDP but with a grassy tonka (ala Vol de Nuit extrait) drydown! Yummm! Caron's Tubereuse is the smoothest, most velvet-like tuberose I have ever smelt. It has that signature Caron marron-glace signature drydown. Reminds me a bit of Feminite de Bois in a way. It doesn't smell like it, but the overall smoothness and the rich, decadent plum is somewhat akin. PM me, I'll send you a sample of these!

Genre: Fruity Orientals/Gourmands. I´ll try anything though when I feel like it.

Current Favorite: D&G L'Imperatrice 3 by Dolce&Gabbana. A summer thing, I don´t do really hot weather very well.

Newest Discovery: L´Eau d´Issey by Issey Miyake

Latest Purchase: Eternity by Calvin Klein, miniature - I keep picking up the bottle and sniffing even when I don´t wear it. There´s something compelling about it I can´t put my finger on, or my nose. Must study more.

Can't Wait To Try: Nirmala by Molinard, when I finally give up the fight and order some samples online for the first time.

The One That Got You Started: L by Lolita Lempicka. After a long nearly perfumeless existence I´d forgotten what a perfume does for you

One You Thought You'd Love But Didn't: Black Orchid by Tom Ford. I like ´em heavy sometimes but this is just too extreme.

Tee hee! I am so glad to see this thread.
I was a too embarrassed newbie to post on it when it just came out, so I posted the answer in my blog instead.

Here's the old answer from April 17, 2010:
Genre/Note: Honey

Current Favorite: Poeme by Lancome

Newest Discovery: L'Instant de Guerlain

Latest Purchase: L'Occitane de Provence Miel et Citron Pailette Shimmering

Can't Wait To Try: Botrytis, Rose Barbare, Hiris

The One That Got You Started: first Burts and Bees Milk and Honey body lotion (oh sweet memories!) and then hand creme by L'Occitane Miel et Citron

One You Thought You'd Love But Didn't: after I tried the hand cream, I rushed out to try L'Occitane's Miel et Citron fragrance. That didn't work. I also didn't detect honey either in White Linen or in Creation.

My answer today: Let's do honey again for now, even though I have more, many more favorite genres.
Genre/Note: Honey

Current Favorite: L'Occitane de Provence Miel et Citron Pailette Shimmering

Newest Discovery: Aftelier Perfumes, Honey Blossom, Vero Profumo Onda EDP.

Latest Purchase: DSH Mahjoun, by no means a pure honey by genre, but also has some honey presence.

Can't Wait To Try: Ava Luxe honey, Jailia

The One That Got You Started: first Burts and Bees Milk and Honey body lotion (oh sweet memories!) and then hand creme by L'Occitane Miel et Citron. And Poéme, this perfume got me crazy for honey (and is not making me realize that I like the honeyed feel of florals more than honey itself).

One You Thought You'd Love But Didn't: disliked Botrytis, Tokyo Milk Honey and the Moon, a wildflower honey accord from CB I Hate Perfume. I liked but didn't love Iris Taizo and Vohina.
