help me chose a scent to give my mom for Mother's Day

Hello Basenoters,

I would like to give my mom a nice scent for Mother's Day. She isn't really a daily perfume wearer, but she has always chosen nice scents and her perfume use was a huge influence on me as a child (and still is). She will be 80 years old this June but is more spry and active than many people half her age. She swims about 3 times a week, goes to the gym several times a week, walks dogs in her town with her friend the dogwalker, who is 35 years younger than she, was a professional concern pianist who has played all over the world, speaks about 5 languages, is politically and culturally active, and is very witty. She is Peruvian and has a darkish skin tone and she can wear heavier, oilier scents, but her skin chemistry seems to bring out the dry notes in everything. I most remember her smelling crisp, even when she is wearing something like Shalimar, if that makes any sense at all.

Her scent wardrobe includes: Guerlain L'heure Bleue, Shalimar, Shalimar Light (gift from me) and Mahora; Clinique Aromatics Elixer; Gucci Accenti; Stella McCartney Stella (gift from me); Shisheido Energizing Fragrance (gift from me); Chanel No. 5 EDT, Paco Rabanne Calandre, YSL Rive Gauche EDT, Carven Ma Griffe, Balmain Ivoire de Balmain.

I was thinking about getting her another Guerlain, but I don't have tons of money to spend and would like to keep purchase to $100 or under. Was also considering a niche, but have no idea where to start based on her current wardrobe.

Suggestions appreciated, please!

Your Mom sounds wonderful and interesting ! She has a great selectio of perfumes too. I want to be like her when I am 79-80 years old .

How about

Femme by Rochas
Mitsouko EDP

Niche
Sacrebleu by Patricia de Nicolai - that's about $55 for 30 mls/ 1 oz from Luckyscent. ( Some similarity to L'Heure Bleu and beautiful )
or
Number 1 by Patricia de Nicolai - about $88 for 1 oz

Imperial Opoponax by Les Nereides - also from Luckyscent- it's about $65 for 100 mls /3.4 oz. ( ambery ,sweet ,golden )

Good luck Mochi !

Hi,
How about a nice rose scent like Nahema by Guerlain or a nice floral like Champs Elysees?
Another suggestion to consider is Joy by Patou.

P.S.
Have a look in my signature, please.I think your mom is what it suggests!!

thank you mysticknot...she is my inspiration too. she's amazing i love her and respect her to the Nth degree!, as she would say

I think Jicky might be in the running. For a Caron...my gut instinct says one of the Tabac's based on her current wardrobe. Did you have a specific Caron in mind? Luckily, I am in NYC and could walk to the Caron boutique from work.

Well Jicky is fabulous at any time . It can be a little 'skanky' though especially in EDP - does Mom mind a little civet ?
Re. Guerlain - Tabac Blond is great ,Mochi . As you are in NYC - you could go ahead and just try some out- I have so many faves from Caron. My new love is Poivre- strong blast of pepper, carnation ,cloves, vanilla .

I think Chamade by Guerlain would be a good choice.

She sounds like an Après l'Ondée lady to me

How about Estee Lauder's Beautiful?

I agree the one of the Nicolais might be the way to go -- classic, beautiful, and very affordable for what they are.

Plus one for a Nicolai... I suggest Odalisque.

A couple that are in your budget that are new and might be good are the new Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere and the new Nicole Miller (Which is only at Saks at the moment).
Most all of the previous selections are really good and since you can go to the Caron boutique I think if you find one you think your mother would like that that would be the best choice.
Good luck finding something.

I'm thinking about getting my mother a Chloe edp gift set that I saw advertised. Which I better do tomorrow if it's to get there in time. My mom is 70, and she has worn a few of the same fragrances as your mother (i.e., Calandre, Mahora, No. 5), in addition to Bulgari Pour Femme, Bulgari Jasmin Noir, Patou 1000, 24 Faubourg. She sniffed the Chloe while we were sniffing in a fragrance department once and said she liked it. That's why I'm giving it to her. I think Bulgari pour Femme, by the way, is a gorgeous fragrance. Your mom might like that, too.

+1 Guerlain Nahema;
+1 Hermes Faubourg, 24 (as pilthered drom lilybelle's post); and my own suggestion of
Guerlain Samsara (imagine all that sandalwood with you mama's chemistry).
