What is your opinion on the strength, sillage and projection of Montale Blue Amber ?

Hey guys and gals,

I've been giving this one a couple of samplings. Blue Amber is quite nice, although not as interesting as some ambers. Still, a good fragrance is a good fragrance. The longevity on this one seems very good.

What I would like to know is, what do Basenoters feel about Blue Ambers strength/sillage/projection ?

Does Blue Amber clear an elevator when you wear it ? Does your skin eat it up ? What is your usual spray number ?

Thanks and would love to hear as many answers as possible. As well, any other thoughts on the scent itself.

Thanks !

Blue Amber is one of my faves. I usually apply two sprays to the neck/chest area and one light one to my forearm (that's for my own sniffing purposes, heh heh). I find that to be more than enough, my coworkers definitely notice it. Everyone seems to love it except for one anti-perfume person who won't even use laundry detergent because of its scent. He usually smells like a billygoat.

I've only worn it a couple times, and it's not my style. None the less, Blue Amber is fairly strong, but not really enormously strong like Tom Ford's Amber Absolute or Montale's own Black Aoud. I'd say it's about average within the amber genre, which on the whole is a strong and long-lasting category. I think two or three sprays would more than do me, but my skin tends to make fragrances quiet after the first hour or so, so if you tend to project or live in a warm climate, one is fine.

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely adore amber-based (centered) frags. I love SL's Ambre Sultan, love Pd'E's Ambre Russe, and love MPG's Ambre Precieux (and own bottles of each). I've only spent time with a 2.5ml decant (tpc) of Blue Amber. It's a lovely fragrance. Very well constructed, very smooth, and (IMO) very classy. That being said, I find that I don't really need another relatively "tame" amber in my stable of ambers. I've got MPG's AP for that. To answer your question directly, though, I find that BA's strength, projection, and sillage are great. For me, one to the chest, one to the neck, and one on a wrist and I'm set. I feel that gives it a nice "volume" where it's noticable but doesn't make me self-conscious. Hope this helps.
