Sample Mania!!!

Today I got in the mail 8 different samples of things I had been wanting to try for a while now, and, I am kind of surprised because I normally like almost anything and I actually didn't like these too much.

*Keep in mind, it is a very very hot day today so I may be just a tad biased at the moment!*

1. Parfums DelRae Emotionelle- Ok so I have to confess I have a new found love of this house. I started off hating HATING Debut but now I own a bottle, it grew on me. I actually also have to confess I tend of love Melon notes that everyone seems to hate. I adore Un Jardin Apres La Mousson. I was fully expecting to find my holy grail melon scent...but this smells odd to me. Definitely not bad, I respect everything this house does, but the melon just seems a bit too watery to me. I have to admit though this is definitely the freshest melon I have smelled. It doesn't have that disgusting metallic twang that i get from a lot of melon accords, and I don't detect any cucumber either, so Props there too.

2. Diptyque's Philysykos- I heard a lot of rave reviews about this one, and I must say it is pretty good, but not what I expected. It is my first true fig fragrance so I am still getting used to how weirdly nutty it smells. I really do like it though, I am sure it will grow on me more.

3. Le Labo Rose- I have also heard a lot about this one so I decided to try it. It might just be that it is 80 degrees out today, and already have a slight headache, but this one is just really turning me off. It smells so dirty and cloying right now I really just want to scrub it off. I am starting to think I just hate rose scents in general...

4. Neroli 36- Oh. My. God. For so long I have been searching for what that note is that I have smelled as a child but never could figure it out. It is Neroli. This is my favorite from all that I sampled. It is a shame it is so expensive, I really love it. Seems like it would be perfect for a hot day. My only complaint is it is a little overly soapy, seems like it could be very cloying if you spray too much.

5. Comme Des Garcons X Stephen Jones- This one was just ok. It didn't really blow me away too much, it smells very peppery with a (pardon my french) shit ton of violets. Definitely not bad, but definitely not worth 175 dollars in my opinion.

6. Nasomatto Silver Musk- I liked this one, but it also seemed rather boring to me, probably because I am not a big fan of clean musks. I would take MKK over this anyday.

7. Charogne by ELDO- Um. I love the ELDO house and was very excited to try this, but I am really not sure to make of this one. Part of me wants to like it, but the other part says NO! Too SWEET! Smells like something died! I will have to revisit this one for sure.

8. Secretions Magnifiques- Ah..Finally. I received a tester of this terrible creature. Reading all the reviews, I put this on expecting something absolutely terrible. And guess what? IT IS! To me, this does not smell like Cum, or Blood, Milk or dead fish or melons. If I could describe this scent in one adjective, it would be: Surgical. It smells like metallic surgical instruments, sterilized flesh and latex. It literally made my stomach churn when I smelled it. It is more of a taste than a smell even. Absolutely disgusting. It almost smells like there is a hint of Chlorine in it somewhere too.

Anyway, Those are my thoughts! What do you think of these scents? Especially Rose 31, I just don't know why I don't like it. I usually am pretty neutral toward rose scents and dirtyness, but this is just icky on me.

Enjoy! Samples are a great way to figure out what you like to buy in full-bottle. Some companies are very generous with samples (usu. with purchases.) I dislike when companies are stingy. Giving out or selling small samples is a GREAT way to generate business, esp. when a coupon towards a full-bottle order is included, such as with Ineke scents.

I can imagine this scent may become a little bit annoying in the heat. To be honest, I can imagine this scent being annoying to some people just because. It's very soapy to me, but I love this about it. I wouldn't let this one put you off rose scents though, I only get rose from the top notes and they disappear after 10 minutes.

I'd be leery of using the Le Labo Neroli as your measuring stick for the neroli note. I have a sample (somewhere) and distinctly remember it smelling a lot more of calone than of neroli (Le Labo has a history of naming something for a note, and then hardly employing it in the same scent). Keep testing other Neroli scents to gather a firm grasp of the note, because I don't think the Le Labo really lets it shine.

I love Rose 31, you should give it a 2nd chance. CDG (Stephen Jones) was in my last batch of samples..I liked that it smelled of voilet lava soap...but its not what I expected. Try GESTE and ASKEW from Humiecki & Graef...They are amazing...

I didn't like Rose 31 the first time I tried it. Now, it's my favorite scent. Give it 30 minutes and see how it does on your skin.
