I bought myself a Paco Rabanne EDT+Aftershave gift set. With Father's Day coming up it's a good time of year to find stuff like this at a good price.

Just come back from Paris, with:

Montale boutique in Paris always gets my love. Everytime in Paris, I always want to visit Montale. About Blue Amber, after about 4 times testing, I start to love this one. No more creamy cookie drydown, which I felt boring. Montale Blue Amber is not as edgy and "in your face" as Serge Amber Sultan. It has so many faces, and full of surprises. Complex first, then boozy, dreamy, mysterious... Patchouli, vetiver, vanille, geranium... Sometimes Blue Amber is hot, other times it's smoky, and smooth... Beautiful and wonderful. Blue Amber has both brilliant sillage and longervity. I find this one extremely suitable for men. And women loves it on men.

I found a new love in Paris. Arabian Oud. This house surprised me. The shop was beautiful. The male SA knew how to give customers the right scents. Arabian Oud had so many great scents. I tried about 10 scents. And I must say that I love most of them. All smelled so diffirent, high-quality, interesting, and distinctive. Most of the bottles were artistic and beautiful in Arabian style. After 1 hours enjoying Arabian Oud, I decided to take Mokhalat Momayaz home. MM has the openning notes( strong, medical, full of oud + rose ), which is very familar with Montale Black Aoud, but brighter and lighter. After about 30minutes, the drydown of MM is dry ( tobacco leaves ), woody ( sandalwood ), rosy, and still oudy... Very masculin, very seductive. Anyone who think Black Aoud is too loud, maybe MM will be the better choice.

Didn't I write a week or two ago that I found Musc Ravageur was all vanilla on me?... okay, I gave it two more wearings and last time I spent a day in Vienna showing friends around... and boy, I smelled good that afternoon. I gave in and bought:
a big bottle of Musc Ravageur
and a big back-up bottle of Une Fleur de Cassie (which is only the third frag I have a back-up bottle of).

I hit the panic button - not enough summer fragrances, plus some "must haves." This month, so far:

Serge Lutens Daim Blond
Aramis Havana
Guerlain Homme
Chanel Pour Monsieur
YSL M7 Fresh

And I've been getting lots of mileage out of L'eau Serge Lutens, which I think I bought in early May.

I'm almost ready for summer. Still tempted to buy Acqua di Parma Colonia Intense, which I sniffed at Barney's and immediately loved. Also falling hard for Le Labo Rose 31, and Le Labo's Vetiver, which a really great SA at the Barney's NY boutique almost talked me into. I'm curious about Pour Monsieur Concentree. . . might be a late-month addition. . .

Since I'm neurotic I snatched up 15 ml of vintage Chanel No 19 parfum to add to my stash. And I also got two vintage minis: 5 ml of Pasha de Cartier edt and 15 ml of Opium edt.

I came across a circa early 80s Derby de Guerlain Paris After Shave today. Dark blue box, the bottle is reminiscent of Guerlain Vetiver but a little more pyramidical with very solid metal cap. Would probably give a few masculine EDTs a run for their money. From the same shop as I got my Maxims and Eau de Patou last year. I also picked up Roger & Gallet Nature System After Shave, Hermes Eau de Cologne and some Eau de Patou & Monsieur Balmain soap - a bit of retro fun.

Funnily enough I ran across the only Les Nereides store in a mall nearby (removal sale) and they had one 30ml Patchouli Antique which I bought.

Cartier Roadster. Magnificent stuff! I smelled the Sport version and realized just how much I love the original. I would say that the Sport was competently changed, yet became less. There is more citrus, less longevity, and the showcased and very novel presentation of mint in Roadster loses its lustre in the Sport. The original is truly a high point of perfumery. Yet another Mathilde Laurent masterpiece!

Histoires de Parfums 1969.

The single event I remember with absolute clarity from this year (I was 13) is carefully dropping the needle on Side 2 of Abbey Road and listening to those magical opening bars of 'Here Comes the Sun' for the first time. It was a sunny New Zealand Sunday morning, full of optimism and promise. TS's comments about the opening of this one are quite true . . . beautiful.
