Most Calming, Tranquil Fragrances?

I picked up a bottle of of CK Eternity Summer 2010 today and I'm amazed at how calming and tranquil this scent is (I'm just now discovering this line). I have also found this effect from L'eau Par Kenzo homme. In this hectic and crazy world, what fragrances give you a feeling of calm and peace?

Something with lavender, long-known in aromatherapy to calm and relax.

Anything patchouli dominant, including just plain 'ole patchouli oil. Also amber, Even better: patchouli combined with amber, as with Montale Patchouli Leaves and Bois 1920 Real Patchouli. I guess that's one reason why we hippies were so laid back. Well, that, and the drugs.

Lavander is reputed to be calming and tranquil, but it doesn't have that effect on me.

Not a fan of the CK line. I tried Escape years ago and it was way too strong. It smells like woman's perfume. I accidentally got some on my dresser and it immediately dissolved the paint! It's paint thinner! No more CK for me.

I am calmed by minimalist, woody fragrances. Thus, much of the CdG line calms me. I am sitting square with a small set of scents, but were I to acquire a new one now, it would be from CdG: 2 Man, Standard, Hinoki, etc...these fill me with a sense of peace.

I second patchouli stuff, too.

Regards,
T

Not any particular fragance but pure oils of lavender, sandalwood, and oud are really calming.

Very Valentino for Men, Horizon by Guy Laroche and basically almost any old-school, also EdC-style, citrus frag

woody, leathery scents really are calming to me.

CdG Kyoto and Patou Prive have that effect on me. They are not loud; they are well blended and are quite calming.

Eau Sauvage is calming to me.

For me, Comme des Garcons Luxe: Champaca is the most serene fragrance I know. It smells springlike without being trite, sharp, or vague; just a narcissus blossom held close. I like florals with fire and drama, but simple beauty has its place.

Prada Infusion d´Homme & Mugler Cologne

No question - CdG Avignon. It has a very different olfactory affect on me than most scents. I know it's a bunch of ISO E with the other notes such as frankincense, myrrh, etc on top, but the blend is fabulous and can keep me smiling and thinking for hours. I spent a lot of time in southern France years ago singing in old cathedrals and this smell brings back those images.

For me, definitely dry woods and franckincense
Miller et Bertaux Spiritus / Land and Diptyque Tam Dao come to mind as calming with a meditative aura.

cheers

These work for me very well to untie the knots:

C&S No. 88
Tam Dao
Mugler Cologne
1000 Jean Patou.

Guerlain Apres l'Ondee
Frederic Malle L'Eau d'Hiver
Amouage Homage
Comme de Garcons Kyoto
L'Artisan Dzongkha
Goutal Encens Flamboyante
Tauer L'Air du Desert Moracain
D. Dubrano (profumo.it) Holy Water
Aveda Chakra Intuition (discontinued unfortunately)
Amouage Epic Woman
Profumum Antico Caruso
Villoresi Uomo

Some for just chilling, meditation, tai chi - some for approaching the work day when a bit of calm in the eye of the storm would be an asset .

Mostly lavender and/or vanilla prominent scents. Which is why I recently picked up Caron Pour Un Homme, which features both.

Woodsy/earthy scents are calming for me, scents like aged vetiver oil, l'Occitane Vetyver, Deep in Earth, profumo.it Oakmoss. I'll second Hinoki and Kyoto - that coniferous/balsamic vibe they share lends itself to meditation or prayer.

royal english leather, the leather mixed with the mandarin is hypnotic and rich which for some reason causes me to calm me down and put a smile on my face screaming sophistication very softly. Since it was made for an English king the "royalty need not shout" quote fits this perfectly.

Kenzo PH, and Krizia Time come to mind.

Incense & dry woods puts me in a calm meditative state of mind. Serge Noire by Serge Lutens.
Lavender doesn't seem to have an effect on me either.

Baie de Genièvre
Richard James
Jaipur Homme
Cacharel Pour L'Homme
Salvador
Égoïste
Acier Aluminium
Kolnisch Juchten

And on rainy days add Rocabar and L'Occitane Vetiver.

Damned if I know what they have in common.

*sigh*

And of course vintage Santal Noble

*************

Still, nothing matches high quality Japanese sandalwood incense-esp. with a dash of kyara.

Mario

How about Scent of Peace by Kenzo?

Just bought the White Tea Scent System for the wife for mother's day. Although it's not a cologne or perfume, it still puts us in the calm and tranquil mood. This is the Westin hotel's signature scent.

If it doesn't have to be a fragrance, scent of granulated white soap, or fresh linens cleaned with that.

I think this one has a lot to do with childhood experiences. A mixture of lavender, soap, camphor, naphtalene and wood smoke paints me the most calming scent.

For me it's gotta be CK be.

Parfumferie Generale Aomassai.

For some reason Tommy (Hilfiger) came to mind first. Gucci ph II as well, although I have trouble wearing it; its very soothing and relaxing. Also many tea fragrances, mint (when done right) and as many have said lavender.

Dior Homme

Gucci Pour Homme II for me!
Lavender does it for me. Cheap lavender, though, because if I were to use Kilian's A Taste of Heaven or something to relax, I'd just be stressing-out about how much money I just spent to have a peaceful moment. So, I go with Caron's Pour un Homme or Azzaro's Pure Lavender for such occassions and save the Kilian's for use in public.

Lavandula by Penhaligon's - I often spray it on bedclothes if I want a particularly good night's sleep (not that I ever want a bad one obviously lol).

A lovely warm Lavender fragrance.

I agree. It's a very calming fragrance to me, too. Also Bvlgari pour homme falls into this category for me.

I really wish there was something I could find that would have a desired psychological impact on me. Alas, I can't, perhaps bad luck, the cocktail of prescription meds I'm on, my own psychosis or a combination of the three. The closest are Tam Dao definitely. And even better Dove and/or Ivory Soap.
