I'm interested in how many of you learned about a frag online (especially on BN), obtained a sample, decant, or bottle, thought it was great at frist, but then came to dislike it. You can choose more than one.

Well it is not on the list but Bois de Cedrat by Creed was one of them I did not think it was bad since it had the woods note from bdp but it was just lacking something, I don't know.

I am only allowed to list 20 choices so I tried too think of BN favorites that many "newbies" didn't try before they found the site.
I own and have always liked every fragrance on your list.

I guess I'm trying to determine "newbie burnout factor," or something like that, Joe, and obviously it's not something that has ever afflicted you! LOL.

it's cool man totally understandable

I think this is better asked as an open-ended question, but not as a poll.

I liked Chergui as a wax sample, bought the fragrance and didn't like it. But it was more a lesson not to buy solely on the basis of wax samples.

Others have gone from "like enough to buy" to "neutral and probably not best to keep", but not to dislike. These include: Creed Silver Mountain Water and Citrus Bigarrade, and Britto Man.

None, really since I love (and still LOVE) a lot of this lot but I i e loathed TdH right from the start ( and believe me, after all the BN praise i did try to convince myself it was good...boy, how I failed...).
only thing that i tried, bought and never use would be body kouros.

Bois du Portugal, hands down. I think that I had something else on that day I received my sample that boosted the scent in a different direction - a different Creed perhaps. I wore it for a day after moving it to a small atomizer... it smelled incredibly dated. I gave my sample/atomizer to a friend post haste.

This isn't on your list, but:

Rive Gauche pour Homme.

Loved it out of the sample, bought a 125ml / 4.2oz bottle straight away, now it gives me a headache! Still looking to offload it.

I like Tobacco Vanille, but sometimes it can really get on my wick, I've found. It's a "sometimes" scent.

I used to love Knize Ten; now can't stand it.
Green Irish Tweed. I loved it at first, but I find it irritating to wear.

You need to be more careful when you are applying it.

I guess I need to get one of these...

I loved Gucci Envy For Men - big time - when I first tried it, and for a while after that, but now I rarely wear it. Still respect it as a scent, but I have to be in the mood for that big spicy blast. Hmmmm. Maybe tomorrow....

I actually didn't like Azzaro pour Homme the first few times I smelled it.

In my defense, I had little in the way of experience with aromatic fougères prior to encountering it. My appreciation for the genre has come on leaps and bounds since.

There's nothing like a good aromatic fougère. Done right, they have a lived-in familiarity about them that is just so easy to wear.

I like all of the others on that list that I have tried--with the exception of Guerlain Vetiver, which I am still getting my head around.

Yes, Knize Ten and Rive Gauche for men would have been included if it were possible.
It's been my fortune to still love everything that I loved at first sniff.
This has never happened to me. If I have fallen in love with something at first sniff, I have stayed in love with it.
All of these "Love at first sniff threads" are getting me confused.

I hated and now love Azzaro PH so I guess that doesn't count. I fell for Antaeus the first time I smelled it and it has been a while since but I suspect that now I would find it too synthetic to consider purchasing.

The big surprise so far, for me, is Tobacco Vanille, because my guess is that it has not been sampled by as many BNers as GIT or Td'H. I'm also a bit surprised that nobody chose Habit Rouge, because I'd guess a lot of BNers have tried it. That's why I like these polls !

My tastes and cravings seem to change fairly frequently. There are very few that I once loved and now actively dislike. I may have grown tired of some, so I keep them around, just in case I suddenly get the urge to wear them again. That said, Chergui and TV have never made it back on to the must-wear list. I like them on others, but I can no longer wear either of them myself. They make me feel queasy.

I wanted to vote Kouros, but it was not in! sometime it smells like Foot Scent !! every time i got one bad thing about it.
YSL Rive Gauche
I didnt wear it alot when I got it but I enjoyed it. I put it on the other day for the first time in 3 months and I was put off by it bigtime.

YSL L'Homme
When I applied it in the store I enjoyed it. Wore it for a few hours to make sure I wanted to purchase it. Got it home and applied it the next day and I couldnt get over it fast enough. I tried again the next day and next day and next day. It was obnoxious on me, I just couldnt get into it the way I did in the store.

YSL Rive Gauche and YSL M7. It took me a while, but now they I don't want to smell like either of them. Not that I dislike them, but I've probably had enough of 'em.
M7 smelled amazing on the scent strip so I bought it. Once I wore it however, it was a dud. I eventually gave it away.

I really like Azzaro but cannot get it to last on me, despite numerous sprays and even buying a new bottle. It may go to the Goodwill soon.

My entry would be Bulgari pour homme. I loved it for a month or two, and now my reaction is about 180 degrees opposite.
For me it was Nemo.
I thought it incredible at first sniff, and at second sniff a week later.
I bought it, and then didn't like it much after a couple of wearings.

With the exception of Envy, I can't say I had any "love" for any of those scents you've listed when I first tried them. Some of them certainly became intriguing after a while though, like Egoiste, Guerlain Vetiver and Green Irish Tweed.
Cheers,
Renato

Several of Serge Lutens' range. They're just too damned strong and heavy. Loved Fille en Aiguilles on the strip, but on my skin, it made me think "did I spill a bottle of cough syrup on myself or what?"
Castile by Penhaligon's. I actually brought it back when my girlfriend (at the time) said that I smelled like 5 star hotel soap...
The ones I disliked from the first sniff (e.g. GV) still haven't found any love from me. But I suppose the closest to meeting the poll would be Terre d'Hermes. I don't love it as much as I used to. It gets a little grating at times so I had to be more careful about the application...
A number these are ones I never liked and still don't like. Others I still really like.

Only one I loved at first because it was different.... Yatagan. I can't stand it anymore.
Rive Gauche should be added to that list

Czech & Speake's Cuba...... and its reformulation.
I had originally ordered a sample from a German company and I thought it was great because of its dissonant (to me) accords.

Later I ordered a bottle from a New York pharmacy.
It sure wasn't the same juice. I suspect it had been reformulated.
I stored it away because I don't want to wear it anymore.

One of my great buying disappointments.
I should have bought a bottle from the German (and expensive) company.

Anyone else have any experience with Cuba reformulations?
