Armani Eau pour Homme - elegant, stylish, balanced, timelessly classy
post #62 of 85
Haven't found it yet.

D&G By man. Ive sampled lots of different niche frags and love many of them but something keeps me going back to By. It wows me every single time I wear it. It lasts for days on clothes and projects like a monster. 10/10 A+

Hmmm Guerlain Tonka Imperiale, smooth, elegant, comforting, can't find a better one, until then this is my holy grail.

I'm still a rookie in the world of fragrances... for now the one impressed me more is YSL Kouros, the smell (on my skin not on the paper) was love at first sight.

Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male

Oriental is my favorite fragrance category but my current holy grail isn't an oriental. I think this is because I haven't tried enough orientals, so when I finally get my hands on something like PdN New York or SL Cherugi then they might claim the title of HG.

For now it's Azzaro pour Homme. Reasons: Smells amazing, year round use, great longevity and sillage, masculine and classic, readily available, cheap.

It's probably been through several reformulations but I have the current one and have no complaints. This means it gains points as I know I don't need to look for vintage.

Pure Coffee and Platinum Egoiste
Closest I have CURRENTLY is Tobacco Vanille. When I get either Amber Absolute or Tuscan Leather, this may change...again.

Rose 31 for me.

Egoiste by Chanel......absolutely adored this fragrance when it was first released in 1990. When I went back to buy another bottle, Egoiste Platinum was released (yech!) and could not find it anywhere. When my sister came back from Paris after living there for a year, she brought me back Egoiste.....life is found. Closely followed by Tsar, there is something in that fragrance that makes me melt. Are you allowed to have two Holy Grails?

I'm not sure I'd call it my Holy Grail but if I were to pick one fragrance that could have been made for me, it would be Lapidus Pour Homme. It's just 'ME'

Terre d'Hermes in any form.

The closest I have come to a HG fragrance is Guerlains L'Instant Extreme Pour Homme.

I believe for people like us, our HG changes on somewhat of a daily basis!

Holy Grails not worn / out of reach:

vintage Tabac Blond (also 'crowning achievement' as per OP)
original Cuir de Russie by Chanel, then sold to men
current L'Heure Bleue parfum

Holy Grails regularly used:

Dior Eau Noire
Montale Attar
Lorenzo Villoresi Piper Nigrum

Pretty much the discontinued masculine scents from Creed's 'Private Collection' - Cuir de Russie, Cypres-Musc and Tabarome. If I had enough, I could happily wear nothing else. As it is, I'm down to ~100ml of Cuir de Russie, ~30ml of Cypres-Musc and ~60ml of Tabarome...

Guys, I originally posted this over a year ago and am pleased that it resurfaced. As it turned out, my holy grail (in theory) has been my purchase of Guerlain's derby (bee bottle). However, in practice, there is NO fragrance in my collection that makes me happier than my unassuming 1740: Marquis de Sade. I will ALWAYS have this in my collection!

Holy Grail ehhhh??

A*Men is my signature, most worn, most loved, most complimented....it's A*Men then!

But others do come close occasionally, such as Chergui, Tobacco Vanille, Pure Malt...However no fragrance has been able to de-throne the King.

Rose 31 , Musc Ravageur ...

Maison Francis Kurkdjian's APOM Homme. Comforting, warm and fresh at the same time, evolves beautifully, lasts for ages. If I were younger panties would cover the road behind me, being however 50+, all I can say is ladies in the nursery home seem to like it

Might very well be Tonka Imperiale.
