Who has used a "Lotion Vegetale"?

I understand that the Guerlain "Lotion Vegetale" was produced to be worn in the hair... however I would like to know if they are oil or alcohol based (my guess is oil).
Has anyone any experience with these, or worn any of these in hair or on skin?
If yes, I would love to hear about your experience.

Thanks,
Dimi.

They might have some alcohol, but they are very greasy. If its oil only, then EO aren't the only oils involved. The smell itself is very very light and is more akin to a Brylcreem strength smell rather than closer to EDC/EDT or even an aftershave.

Dimi, as Guerlain is a company with a "real" pedigree dating back to 1828, perhaps this is a version of the 19th century perfumed men's hairdressing called Macassar oil.

Macassar oil was perfumed with ylang-ylang, for the most part. I would say it is oil-based, but that is just my tuppence.

Cheers for the responses.
Perhaps someone could be specific and shed some more light on their composition and strength.
Thanks

I think you might want to refer to this thread:

Google search will yield more answers as well

Thanks Junkfood, but despite your kind efforts, the info in the thread provided is scant and full of suppositions with regard to the composition of the lotions. Google also yields very little info specific to the Guerlain compositions.

Dear Dimi,

This is an old thread, and your question may have long been answered, but since I just recently (as in <1 hour ago) unsealed my 56+ year bottle of a Shalimar lotion vegetale, I thought I'd settle the matter so that it's on the record. To answer your first question: it is alcohol-based, my bottle says it's 87° alcohol. Secondly, since I've only worn vintage extraits of Shalimar (I don't think spritzing the EDT/EDP at the store counts as wearing), I can't compare how strong it is relative to other concentrations. It is quite, strong, though (maybe like an EDT?). I could smell that bergamot-y goodness emanating out of the opening to my bottle even 6 inches away . I put a dab on my skin, so let's see how it develops.

My hands were shaking as I unsealed it, as you can imagine. Lovely stuff, maybe I'll try wearing it in my hair today and report back to this forum re: longevity, and all that good stuff!
