L'Egoiste by Chanel.

I blind bought this fragrance because of referances to similarity of Bois des Iles. I realize that similar doesn't mean the same but, I like Bois des Iles so, I guess the question is; was this a safe buy? Your thoughts are solicited.

Not as elegant as Bois des Iles but easily one of best orientals for men.

Excellent blind buy! Sell me your bottle, if you don't want it.

The first time I smelled it, I was on a plane (just having sprayed some on my hand in Duty Free before boarding the plane) and I spent the entire flight entranced by the scent. When I arrived in my destination (Copenhagen) I was obsessed with the scent.

N_Tesla - apply this one lightly. No more than a couple of sprays, or it will become sickeningly cloying.

I think there is a skin chemistry and sensitivity issue with this one, just like Kouros. It's way too harsh for me (one spray to chest).

I think you will enjoy it immensely.

Bois des Îles and Égoïste are very closely related. If you like one you are almost guaranteed to like the other one too.

Chanel Egoiste is a very good scent, maybe sometimes it can be too sweet... actually I prefer Chanel Allure pour homme, another hit with women but less cloying then Egoiste.

A wise buy.

On my "must buy" list - probably this weekend. . .

I don't smell many similarities to Bois des Iles at all, other than the fact that both contain sandalwood. Bois des Iles is much drier than Egoiste; Egoiste now is mainly sweet sandalwood. I agree with the others: it is very strong, so only a little bit is needed.

I agree with shamu1 above that the similarities between the two just begin and end with sandalwood.

If you've secured a bottle that actually has L'egoiste printed on it instead of Egoiste, you may have unknowingly bought vintage Egoiste which is even better. L'egoiste was supposedly the UK version of Egoiste and I presume that they don't make L'egoiste anymore.

Nevertheless Egoiste in any formulation is a fantastic scent.

Yeah, the early phase of the fragrance is crazy sweet. I have a sweet tooth, but it was still too sweet for me. But it has a gorgeous smokey/incensy dry down.

I am so desperate to try this.

Don't have the guts to buy blind though.

Though it's a very unique scent, I think Egoiste is a terrible blind buy. It's a frag that I respect and admire for its artistry, but I could never wear it. I find it suffocating and very uncomfortable to wear.
