Curious about Guess by Marciano (2006 / 2009)

Hello,

I've spotted several low-priced testers of Guess by Marciano (http://www.basenotes.net/ID26130584.html) but no opened testers available whatsoever. I made some research on it and found many mebers mentioning it being similar and / or having notes in common to DG The One, Gucci pH, Tony Bahama, Memoir d'un Homme and KC's RSVP. Some say it is great, others mention it is the usual spicy - amber belend so easily found everywhere. Most reviews are good, though.

The point being, all these references confuse me.

As for a someone with a preference for classical scents, powerhouses dating from the 1980's, woody spicy and aromatic fougeres, would this be a safe blind buy?

Actually, this fragrance is a little hidden gem for me. It's a bit more modern than the 80's powerhouse scents but has excellent longevity and sillage. Well worth the money as you can buy this relatively cheap.

I have to be blunt about Guess Marciano. I find it to be atrocious. It has that loud sharp, synthetic woody amber note that so many 90s frags have in them, which just flattens any of the other notes that might be in it. It's one of the few scents I've sampled that I couldn't wait to get home and scrub off.

The dark brown bottle and box led me to think it would be a rich aromatic spicy frag, but that woody amber note killed it for me.

This one burned my nose a bit. It opened VERY spicy and after awhile it settled down.. but didn't go anywhere interesting. Spicy woody amber then after a couple hours just plain woody amber.
