How am I going to cope? No fragrance buying for two months!!!

Yes, it's true.

Me and my girlfriend have agreed to suspend buying of things (we're both Ebay addicts) as we need to save for a holiday in August.

How I will cope without my daily trawl through the fragrance section is beyond me...

Yikes, I believe is the word.

Yikes indeed! You have my sincere best wishes on this plan, I know it's a tough go but sometimes we just have to suck it up and do the difficult thing! (laughs)

I know it's hard man, just stop using fragrance for 3-4 days, and you'll see how much you'll miss your colognes and it'll make you happy with your current collection so the desire of wanting more n more is dimmed down.

Good luck with that. Yesterday I was like: "Ok, now when I have my car repaired I am really going to save some money and dont buy things that I dont need for couple of months".
1 day later - I ordered another fragrance that I dont need

Ha! Two days ago I "decided" not to buy fragrance for the rest of 2010-- in order to save for something big (maybe a digital SLR), and because I have run out of room in my little fridge! We'll see how long this resolve lasts, though.

Willpower!

But August is such a nice time to be in the UK and have a holiday at home, surrounded by nice smells.

Work out some swaps with othr BN'ers... Only need to spend on postage/atomisers.

Do as the great dandies did when pennies had to be watched: cut back.

For them: cutting back on gambling, fewer baubles for the mistresses and dancers, not attending horse auctions, fewer trips to the bootmakers and tailors! For us--less perfume.

Yes, it's hard but not impossible. I am doing this myself because of the world economy.

Wouldn't it be cute if you coped by playing cards with each other at night after dinner?

DustB I think that is a marvelous plan!

*LOL*

I am also an Ebay fragrance addict and will power is something I must learn too !

I am trying NOT to buy fragrance too but -well- actiasluna - you will laugh ! - I ordered a sample of Sous Le Vent last night. *LOL*

I only need to look at my bank account to curb my spending though.

You are correct MG...

I guess it is really a self-limiting obsession, (did I call it that? ) as I refuse to put anything to do with a hobby on a credit card.

That's the nice thing about being a grown-up... we can be as responsible (or otherwise) as we want!

just because you cant buy them doesnt mean you cant test them how i would do it is get to know my collection very well and i would exstensively try stuff at Macys or whatever department store youre near so that when you can buy again you know EXACTLY what you want
post #16 of 30
*LOL* I am laughing at myself, right with you K /actiasluna.
Ido try to balance my spending and I spend my life in guilt anyway re. my perfume !

Shock! Horror!! I would rather consider multiple tooth extraction without anaesthesia.

For the sake of a holiday in August, HDS? What holiday in August could hope to compare with the joys of a holiday of the nose today?
It's easy. find a replacement for it!! you can be Amazon addict!!!
Honestly, if I still lived in the UK, the only holiday I would need this summer, is a trip to Harrods and Fortnums.

To deny ones self fragrance is like denying air to breathe, wine to drink and French cuisine to eat. The very idea sends cold shivers down my back. Ya! Good luck with that. (LOL)

I'm a huge fan of fabulous vacations, so good luck! What is the destination?

DustB...I loved the two of them playing cards at night image.

Y'all need to take up knitting! Oh wait- never mind. My yarn collection takes up 10 x the space of my scent collection.
Dont forbid yourself anything otherwise it will only make you want it more ..... maybe make other small cut backs just so that you can have an occasional treat ... jmho of course

Best of luck with your plan. I'm also an Ebay fragrance addict and appreciate the hell you'll be going through.

But every cloud has a silver lining, on the upside at least you won't be bidding against me.

LMAO---that is so true! How many times, after losing an auction, have I thought "I wonder if someone on BN just got that? "

Lol - what's funny is that I met someone at an Andy Tauer event last week that I'd sniped for a bottle of Aramis Havana a few weeks previously. That was just plain weird as I'd never met the person before.

I've just realised something though - I have a load of Liberty shopping vouchers that I haven't spent yet! Hurrah! I can feed my addiction without er, breaking my word...

Damn, that's only one purchase...

... will have to work out some other cunning plans...

I guess you could also experiment with layering combos. I have a lot of scents that are quite boring and linear.
I think many of them could be boosted with some added help of another fragrance. Take Paris Hilton, for example.
I smells very juvenile to me. However, with some added notes, like maybe a bit of vetiver or woods, it could
possibly be transformed into something that an older gentleman might be able to pull off.

Sorry

LOL. Yeah, like go without daily showers and save on water bills. Your powerhouse fragrances can cover up for the natural odors...
