Some fragrances are obviously inspired by others. Please vote on which fragrance you think is better: the original or the one inspired by the original. (Please only vote for each category if you have tried both).

For example, category A lists Angeliques sous la Pluie and French Lover. Only vote if you've tried both!

In most cases the original scent is quite naturally the standard. I only voted for one inspired as better than the original.

Wait, Angeliques sous la Pluie came BEFORE French Lover? Hmm, never knew that. Intersting...... Either way, as an owner of both I chose AslP over French Lover.

Even if they would have inspired fragrances close to genius, I think that the achievements of the original GIT and BDP are hard, if not impossible, to match

Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan

&

Histoires de Parfums Ambre 114

Though the latter is a very clear take-off of the former, it's smoother, pleasanter, and much more balanced than its predecessor to my nose.

From what I've read, French Lover was Pierre Bourdon and Frederic Malle's attempt to prolong the longevity and sillage of Angeliques sous la Pluie. I think they did a great job, but I prefer AslP as well. (In hindsight, I find the lineage is a little more obvious, especially when taking into account that AslP translates to "angelicas under the rain," while French Lover, AKA Bois d'Orage, translates to "woods of the storm").

I don't think so. But it sure seems like it

Some of the fragrances I listed above didn't necessarily inspire the creation of their "offspring," but for the sake of making an interesting poll, I included some fragrances that simply share a lot of DNA with their successor.

I'm not so sure about this one. I sense a strong, strong similarity in the opening notes, but that's about it.

Cool Water I'm crystal clear was directly inspired by Green Irish Tweed which burst on the scene in 1985 and I personally think really put Creed on many people's radar. I believe it's Luca Turin who asserts Pierre Bourdon created GIT for Creed, then did Cool Water for Davidoff. Creed says GIT was created by Oliver Creed.

Many of the Bonds seem to have been inspired by other scents. Wasn't their president a former Creed executive?
