Hello
In this world of social media it might seem the in-thing these days to spread the word about your company online. While it might be fine to shout about your company on Facebook or Twitter - forums are a little different.
You may have noticed that Basenotes is a large collection of fragrance enthusiasts, and may think this would be a good place to link to or announce your company, product or blog. But unlike social networking, where people opt to read your views, everyone on a forum sees your posts.
Please read this before posting to these forums.
People come here to talk about fragrance. It is a bit like friends meeting in a favourite cafe or bar. When someone comes along to 'sell' them a product, people don't like it, which is why we do not allow these kind of posts.
From our Forum Rules:
We have many members who run a business and have posted hundreds of posts, of which 99% have not been in any way related to their business. As a result, our members get to know and trust them.
Tips
If you represent a business, please don't join here under a pseudonym and pretend you are a satisfied customer or another non-interested party. We can see right through you. Join under your real name or even your business name. You can even put your link in your signature and profile. You can even be verified to show you are a representative of your company.
Search to see if anyone has been recently talking about your company. Don't go digging up posts from 2 months or a year ago. Feel free to join in these conversations. Maybe someone has had a good experience with you -- why not post a note of thanks. Or someone may have had a bad experience - treat it as a customer service exercise. Likewise, if someone is asking a question about your brand, feel free to respond.
Have a new product / site / brand? - tell the editorial team, we may run a news item on the front page. Use the contact us link and let us know.
Advertise with us. We have a range of stuff to suit all budgets. Contact us
If you have a love of fragrance, then our members will welcome you with open arms. If you are here to sell, then find somewhere else.
Thank you for your participation
PS. If we have banned you in the past for Spamming, and wish to try again, contact us and we'll see what we can do.

From our Forum Rules:
Posts or Private Messages which are designed purely to solicit or promote a business or website are not permitted without prior agreement. This includes the use of whisper campaigns. We realise that many members may have businesses which may be of interest to our visitors but please remember that people come here to discuss, not to be sold to in threads.
It's quite simple. If you are here to participate in discussion about fragrance then come on in. However, if you are here purely to try and generate interest in your product, then you will likely be banned. We have many members who run a business and have posted hundreds of posts, of which 99% have not been in any way related to their business.
