Another fine mess

Not sure when technology, engineering, and infrastructure began to take a back seat to shareholder dividends here in the states but am starting to wonder if big oil can do anything right anymore. Besides spin - but this one will be a little harder to weasel out of since it runs right smack through the middle of a very popular arboretum and then wends it way downtown stopping to fill several park ponds on its way to the Great Salt Lake. 21, 000 gallons managed to get away from these guys. A drop in the comparative bucket, I guess, so I should be thankful. Unlike the mess lapping the pilings of the house my grandparents left me not far from Cameron, Louisiana that will in all likelihood be ruined for my lifetime. Thanks big oil! Another great example of why corporate execs should live near their livelihoods.

Forget oil companies...let's talk about oil.

Yuck! Just yuck! Nearly 140 years after the first internal combustion engine and nearly 160 years after first oil refineries, we're still powering civilization with smelly black goop that comes out of the ground.

I have a computer phone orb thing that can give me driving directions in Sri Lanka and tell me what song is playing in the background at the bar, instantly.

How do we have that, but our cars still run on nasty oil? We'd have had viable alternatives to oil decades ago had the market seriously demanded them, but the negatives have been either too small or too long term for the market to care (until now, hopefully...).
