Need a recommandation (ORIENTAL/WOODY/INCENSE)

Hey there,

I'm looking for an oriental, I would like it to have a slight touch of vanilla, I want it to be woody, I won't mind a little incense added to the drydown I'd like it to be suited for the summer.

I like a lot: Cuir Ottoman, Opium Pour Homme, Sutra Ylang, Body Kouros, Royal Delight. I'm not looking for something similar to the ones mentioned above, but something new, something that will blow my mind away.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like you're describing L'Instant de Guerlain. (Although my decant hasn't arrived yet, so I'm not sure)

I see alot of buzz going on for Carlos Santana for Men. I think it's worth checking out. More vanilla than woods IMO.

You're describing Gucci Envy to a T....although for me it's an autumn/Xmas frag.

In fact, Basenotes even says...
This sleek, masculine, oriental, woody scent was launched in 1998.

Have you tried L'Occitane's Eau des Baux? As you like sweet (Royal Delight) and incense, you may wish to try Eau des Baux. Only about $46.00 USD online. it is classifed as a spicy oriental. This is a medium-sweet scent with vanilla, spice and incense:

Top Note: Pink pepper, Cardamom
Middle Note: Cyprus, Incense
Base Note: Vanilla, Tonka Bean

I agree with neal - Gucci Envy came right to mind for me. ANother (and more expensive) frag that came to mind - at least from the incense part - was Tauer Air d' Moracain (sp?). A lot of people said it reminded them of a desert, but not me. The incense made me think of a church service (not in a bad way of course)

lol why cant i stop talking about it...

buuuut A*Men fits your description exactly to my nose. its woody, its oriental, and its got an incense vibe on my skin for a good hour or two

EDIT: im dumb, youve already got it...

the female version of Opium is IN. CENSE. to me. idk how you feel about wearing a womans frag but that would fit your description perfectly as well. not sure how different it is from the male version however...

Armani Code may be another option, more woody and oriental but i think theres some incense to it

Carlos Santana for Men is all about cinnamon, not much vanilla.

Code is very nice. Not vanilla, but it gets softer and nicer as the night goes on. It's quite relaxing.

Jubilation XXV - sweetness from balsams more than amber or vanilla, fortunately.

L'Air du Desert Marocain

What about Serge Lutens Fumerie Turque? Great Stuff.

Thank you all. I have tried Sushi Imperiale, Jubilation XXV, they are great, I like them a lot, but I want something new. I will soon get Fumerie Turque, and Tauer's LDM samples ASAP.

If you like dry woods & incense over slightly sweet base, I'd recommend Serge Lutens Serge Noire.
But it might take some getting use to.

Other notable options:-

Sonoma Scent Studio's Encens Tranquille (rounder, a little mossy drydown)
Annick Goutal's Encens Flamboyant (less dry, woodsy fresh incense)
Amouage's Dia Man (refined, with hide-and-seek character)

Reflection man by Amouage is what you are looking for.

Woodsy oriental? I can think of Feminite du Bois, Vetiver Oriental and Chene.

I second the Bois d'Armanie by Guerlain.

Azzaro Visit
Gucci pour Homme 1

sans incense:
Lalique pour Homme Equus (especially the EDP)
Cerruti 1881 Intense pour Homme

Laura Biagiotti Roma Uomo is one of the best woody orientals.

A non-heavy oriental wood with frankincense and myrrh basenotes?

Sounds an awful lot like Lauder Intuition.
