L'Artisan makes it and it's only available in the 100 ml bottle.

Yes, I received my sample and love it, but I have so many bottles I prefer 50 ml's if I can get them. It is similar to Amouage's Jubilation XXV but with more incense and less dried fruit, spices, if that makes any sense. Great fragrance for Fall in New England.


...and definitely less expensive than Clive Christian.

I purchased this at Aedes a while back and I am glad I did. For me it's a nice heavy, smoky incense.

I've been sampling this all week. I LOVE THIS! I ADORE THIS!! I WANT THIS!!! I'LL HAVE THIS !!!! There is no mistaking this is a Bertrand Duchaufour creation full of resinous incense, florals and an almost semi-gourmand base of patchouli and I think coffee and amber.

This sounds excellent - like a perfect compromise between the sometimes overly fruity Jubilation XXV and the overly dry/austere Epic Man.

Can anyone compare it to Epic Man?

I'd say Epic Man is more a chypre/fougère while Aedes de Venustas is more an incense fragrance with spices, greenery and a gourmand-ness in the drydown. Very dark. Very heavy. Very Autumn. Divine.

I wore this today. Instant love!

I mean you think, how many different incense scents can Duchaufour create and yet still be unique? It's amazing! It's much spicier than I expected it to be, and the dry floral aspect of it kept the smoke in check. It wore nice and transparent, like I expected it to from the house of L'Artisan - but still all afternoon I kept getting whiffs of it.

The comments above, about this smelling like Jubilation XXV with the fruits removed, make sense - I agree with that assessment. Still, the AdV is not quite as radiant as the the JXVV...and that is a good thing.

Now I want a bottle. (sigh)

I've not tested AdV fully yet, but my initial impressions are a less opulent XXV. It is darker and moodier than XXV. XXV is the sultan's classically good looking and charismatic son who is always the life of the party, while AdV is his edgier but equally good looking brother who tends to brood and speaks less often, but never wastes a word when he does open his mouth.

I think that Aedes de Venustas is closer to Dzonghka than Jubilation XXV. Seems more relaxed and balanced, but is still the same cedar, incense, spice and fruit notes that Douchafor spreaded in a lot of his fragrances from that era. I think you have to be crazy for his fragrances to have them all, since they always sound similar at some time during the evolution. I still prefer Dzonghka and Jubilation XXV, which for me is the best variation of the bunch.
