What was the first fragrance you wore?

It was 1979. I was 14. I remember wearing Oleg Cassini for Men by Jovan. Also Chaps by Ralph Lauren which had just come out. Those were the first ones I can remember seriously wearing out in public. Then Pierre Cardin. A little later I discovered Paco Rabanne Pour Homme which is still a beloved favorite. All four of them actually!

I guess other than "playing" with dads smellies when I was a kiddo , my first serious purchase was Diors Farenheit when it was first released - I was in my teens . Its such a shame they tinkered around with it and its now just a shadow of its former self .... Id love an original formulation bottle to remind me of being young again LOL 11!!!!!!
Polo, actually it would have been some kind of Avon years ago. Came in a bottle that looked like a Vette, maybe some kind of aftershave
post #4 of 78
I can't remember maybe STR8, but the first REAL fragrance that I wore was Eau Fraiche by Versace, picked up all by myself at 14.
The first one I actually bought was Kouros. Before that I think the only thing I actually wore was when playing around with a bottle of Hai Karate belonging to an uncle (and vile stuff it was too).
The first fragrance I bought was Candies for Men back in junior high and high school.

I think the first I wore when I was looking around in my daddy's medicine cabinet was Aramis, which my mother adores. I remember coming out of the bathroom when I was six smelling of the stuff after watching my dad shave one Christmas afternoon. We had family and friends over for dinner. My mother cooed and said, "I smell Aramis!" When my dad said, "It ain't me, it's him." My mother went up to me and embarrassingly smothered me with kisses in front of everyone.

I don't remember clearly. For first time i wore "One Man Show" when i was 9 years old or 10 maybe 8!, in 1992-3.
6-7 years later i bought a cheap cologne with 5$(City)
when i was 17 approximately i became an addict with buying Tommy Boy.
that would be nenuco at around 6 months!
I don't remember which one of these two was the first one: Drakkar (not Drakkar Noir) or Balafre (LancĂ´me). I bought them together.
My first fragrances were Canoe, Farenheit, and Obsession.
I was 15, the scent was Égoïste!
My sister gave me a bottle of Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur for Christmas, some time in the '70s. I was probably 17 or 18.

The first bottle I bought for myself was Aramis.

Hai Karate.

My cousin gave me a colgne-after shave gift set for my 14th birthday in the mid-60's. That started me off on my fragrance interest.

santa fe..haha so 90's
but i fell in love with escape..summer of 98'..my first big purchase... i wore the hell out of it
post #16 of 78
Well define fragrance haha cause it could be some nice victoria secret lotion that got me all the attention from the boys in my grade (friends) which made me realize the power of fragrances (no im not gay, its just my friends enjoy pretending to be. The scent drew them in for it was love spell) i just needed something for my skin so i asked a female friend to borrow some lotion.

I then wore some bath and body works lotions which are actually quite pleasant imo.

My first cologne i wore, was borrowed from my friend for a magical evening i had with my girlfriend. It was aqua di gio, and thats when i started researching how to wear cologne and etc etc. And now im here hahaha, Aqua di gio is not something i wear, but it is something i'd love to own for scentimental reasons that evoke memories and emotions from that one night.
For me it was my Fathers Brut and Old Spice that I would borrow then my first purchase was Dunhill Edition when I was sixteen.

Salvador Dali pour Homme, when I was 14
The first bottle I chose and bought was the first version of Benetton Colors (the black bottle). I recently found a vintage tester from a fellow BNer. Then I got more serious with Jil Sander Man, Feeling Man and Background.

Balafre - early 70s
I think it was British Sterling. A stocking stuffer or similar type of gift. I must have been an early teen, if that. Didn't really wear it.

I would take some of dad's Polo on occasion.

In high school I got a gift set of Escape, Obsession, and Eternity.
I was a teenager and overnight I went from books to chicks. Polo was the ticket and I wanted a ride. Honestly, I never liked it but the girls did and I was happy about that. Later, though, in high school, I moved over to Obsession for Men and Passion for Men, the latter being much better than what it is today (I don't even recognize it now). Obsession worked for me in ways that Polo never could...ahem...and Passion, well, it was the "last straw" of no resistance.

It was in 1995. Hugo Boss Hugo
as they say: don't imitate - innovate

I was on cloud 9 the day I got a bottle of Polo.

Apart from Dad's Old Spice, first colognes were Brut and Paco Rabbane.

Jean Nate in the mid-1960s.

My first "real" perfume was for my 12th birthday - White Shoulders, a gift from a beloved aunt.

I remember Wearing My Old Man's Brut, Canoe, and Clubman as a Kid. Good days
post #32 of 78
Early seventies, when I was about 14, I wore an aftershave called Sven, by Yardley.

Picked up a bottle of it off Ebay last year, for old times sake. It actually wasn't half bad!
I snuck some of my dad's scents from time to time (Brut, English Leather, British Sterling), but the first scent I bought for myself was Hai Karate. It was so horrible, I'm surprised I stuck with men's frags at all after that.

I can't fathom what they were thinking with that stuff. It would seem to have been an early and very poorly executed use of synthetics. Splashing it on with all the restraint of a horny teenager out to "get the girls" didn't help.

In my memory, it was one of the first mass marketed scents that was very inexpensive and launched with a huge and infamous advertising campaign.

Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur was the first frag I wore successfully.

First I ever used was Polo for me too, my Dad gave away a very old, 3/4 used bottle as a castoff. I had to stop using it because I broke out in a skin rash every time!

First I bought for me was L'Eau D'Issey.
First I ever used was probably my dad's Obsession. First bottle I owned was Hugo, which I got for Christmas or a birthday.
High-school boys in my generation would turn to English Leather (by MEM in those days) when they wanted something cooler than their dads' Old Spice. My dad was so cool that he wore English Leather! Then everybody was thrilled when the company brought out a flanker, English Leather Lime. Once I realized that even dads were wearing EL, I took the advice of a friend to buy a bottle of Moustache on a trip to Europe.
Opium by YSL, when I was 16.
The first I ever wore was probably my dad's Brut.

I asked for, and received some Lancer as a gift. It was imitation Polo. First I recall buying for myself was Aramis, and it's still my all-time favorite.
It was 1979 and the first I ever wore was my dad's Gillette after shave-now discontinued and probably impossible to find.I still believe it was a awesome scent.
Well, I used Aqua Velva when I first started shaving. Didn't everybody?

My first real fragrance (early 80's) was Musk by Coty. I also remember using Matchabelli and Eau de Sauvage, then switching to Colors by Benetton. Matchabelli was a really nice inexpensive chypre, typical of the period. Fortunately, not everything in the 80's was "powerhouse".
My grandfather's Eau Sauvage...
English Leather & Chaps & Pierre Cardin.

Johnson's Baby Oil. I was the envy of the nursery.
Brut here too. Then I moved up to Stetson.
Quasar Adventure, I still love putting it on sometimes just because of the memory associations I have with it
post #48 of 78
I believe it was the original Calvin in 1984. But it's possible I had a plastic bottle of English Leather in 1982.
I was given 3 bottles of fragrance one Christmas during my teens:

Paco Rabanne pour homme
YSL pour homme
Oleg Cassini for Men

These were first.

Actually, I too played around with Dad's cologne before Oleg, Ralph L., and Pierre. And it was Chanel for Men that I had given him! Talk about starting off on solid ground! But Mom was the one who had suggested the Chanel for my Dad. She had impeccable taste in fragrance...still does. Love you Mom!
My grandmother gave me a bottle of Drakkar Noir for xmas, I believe in the 9th grade. My first solo purchase was Swiss Army. I still have a soft spot for both, though I'd never wear them LOL.
I think it was Paco Rabanne pour homme Sport.
My father's perfumes, CARON POUR UN HOMME and ROCHAS MOUSTACHE
