What are some must-try classics?
post #2 of 41
Grey Flannel
Kouros

Azzaro pH is really the king of old school must-tries. Judging by your previous posts, I think you'd enjoy this very much. Drakkar Noir as well, but it's nothing like Polo, Brut, or ApH; it has a lot of lavender in it. Oh ya, and Quorum!
post #4 of 41
You could try Blue Stratos or English leather.
post #5 of 41
Chaps by Ralph Lauren (The original juice, not the stuff at Kohl's.)
Royal Copenhagen
Pinaud Clubman
post #6 of 41
Not that they are anything like
the previous classic must-tries:

Drakkar Noir
Fahrenheit
Égoïste

And most resently;
Dior Homme

My goodness, no mention of Aqua Di Gio or Cool Water?

Good call, matching the previously mentioned scents.

Also, among a lot of others:

Pierre Cardin pour Homme
Canoe - Dana
Sex Appeal for Men - Jovan
Monsieur Musk - Dana
Acqua de Selva

1+ One Man Show
1+ Drakkar Noir
1+ Yatagan
1+ Aramis Devin
Cartier Pasha

between Old Spice, Brut, Polo:
1- Old Spice
2- Brut
3- forget Polo completely

M7. It will be totally different from anything you have tried. You will probably either love it or hate it. Sample first recommended. You need to know what this one is all about.

Montana Parfum d'Home (Red Box). This is the almost perfect reissue that I believe has also bit the dust. Inexpensive and strikingly masculine and beautiful.

Monsieur de Givenchy, Mouchoir de Monsieur by Guerlain, ADP Colonia and Colonia Assoluta, Halston Z14, Francesco Smalto pour Homme, Zino Davidoff, Van Cleef & Arpels pour Homme, YSL pour Homme and YSL pour Homme Concentree
post #22 of 41
Quorum
Guerlain Vetiver
Fahrenheit
Azzaro

"Next" as in the next one you should try, or as in current scent that will be considered the next classic?

If the former, you have many suggestions here already that I agree with.

If the latter, Dior Homme and TdH would be good candidates, IMO.

By the time I was a child, Old Spice and Brut were 'everyman', drug store splash ons. Something Polo has never been.

So the contemporaries of Old Spice and Brut would be Rapport, Blue Stratos, Mandate, Denim, and how could anyone forget Hai Karate?! Pierre Cardin PM just about fits in this group too.

How do I remember these? Because my Dad tried the lot of them (or got them in Christmas gift sets). I'm sure it was this lot that Anchorman was taking the piss out of.

Once he was making better money, my Dad moved up to Department store colognes. Aramis and Paco Rabanne, then Polo when it came out, then Antaeus and Kouros. Quorum and Drakkar Noir would also appeal to a guy like this.

Lagerfelt Classic
post #33 of 41
Classics are the scents from the past that you can still find in the shops:
Guy Laroche Drakkar Noir
CK Obsession
Chanel Egoiste
Davidoff Zino
Davidoff Cool Water
Armani Aqua di Giò
JPG Le Male
CK One
Versace Dreamer
Dior Fahrenheit
Bulgari Aqua
and many others...
Paco Rabanne One Million I think it will become a classic.
post #34 of 41
70s = Paco Rabanne
80s = Kouros
90s = Le Male
00s = 1 Million

Don't you get it?? He mention 3 strong perfumes and asks what is next, and you propose those bland, insipid, watered down "aquatics" (Aquatic means watery after all, doesn't it)

So Seanjuan, those Drakkar Noir, One man show , Quorum, Paco Rabanne and Azzaro pH suggestions you got are perfect for your quest, and I may add Fendi Uomo, Ted Lapidus pH and Sung pH.

Lagerfeld Classic
Drakkar Noir
Halston Z-14
Quorum
Aramis
Obsession

All must smells for sure, just frags that once they are in your head you can immediately recognize it from there on after.

Gotta echo Tabac.
Be sure to try out both the edc and edt as they are quite different.

How would Zino fit into this discussion?
