Attributes When Rating?

What do you, or should you, rate and look at when testing a fragrance? I mean you got the obvious ones...

  • Scent (duh!)
  • Longevity
  • Sillage

But also stuff like...

  • Potency/Concentration
  • Uniqueness
  • Versatility/Wearability
  • Value

Do you take these things into consideration? Is there anything else that should be considered?

Whether I like the scent or not is my main factor.

Then longevity, sillage, along with uniqueness. Uniqueness can actually score extra points for me.

Also, how well executed a scent is, whether or not it is complex, can not only earn points but also respect for the perfumer.

Versatility, wearablity, and concentration have little to do with how I rate a scent.

Value can, but only if it is exceptional.

Those are the things that matter to me, but I think you may find that different factors are of differing importance to different people.

BTW, Welcome to Basenotes.

I just go by the scent itself

Aside from the 3 important parts (Scent, longevity, sillage) the most important thing to me is uniqueness. There's nothing more disappointing than smelling a carbon copy. Versatility is not that important to me cuz scents with high versatility usually really safe and boring.
