10 ingredients used to make 5 or 6 colognes. Is it possible

I was thinking about this for a good while, and wanted to know is it possible to have 10 ingredients while they all must be used to make at least 5 or 6 colognes.

The perfumer must use all the ingredients and cannot leave any out, not even one.

the resulting colognes will have all 10 ingredients but can they be different in smell longevity/sillage.


can a classic be made, and can a dud be made out of these ingredients.

if this is about composition and balance between ingredients, absolutely the results can be very different.
making a dud is very easy, but making several great ones without omitting or adding anything else would be harder without cheating ( 0.01% of an ingredient in a composition)

The average fragrance contains more than 200 ingredients, made up predominantly of aromachemicals that are not for sale to the public.

Somehow this seems apt to be posted by the guy with the username Bogart. lol

And yes, varying proportions of the same ingredients can produce wildly differing scents.
And so long as they are the 10 favorable ingredients, making a good scent wouldn't be a problem. Classic? idk about that, but a good one can certainly be made. Even the scents that smell relatively simple often have hundreds of ancillary supporting notes amongst several dozen heavy lifters.

lol that is the reason I ask this question because I know most perfumes are made with many ingredients, but there are a few out there I would think would have at leaset 10 such as some knockoffs maybe

Your basic masculine chypre usually includes:

The topnotes:
1. Bergamot
2. some other citrus, often lemon
3. verbena, to extend the lemon into the heart

Some spices:
4. Juniper berry
5. basil

The chypre base:
6. labdanum
7. oakmoss
8. vetiver
9. patchouli

Pick another ingredient, maybe some wood or a flower, and you have 10.

Thousands of frags have been made based on these ingredients, so I'd assume someone who knew what they were doing could come up with 5 or 6 different scents by altering the concentrations.
