What are you reading? Part 2 - Page 10

i'm currently reading de ontdekking van de hemel (the discovery of heaven) by harry mulisch. it's generally valued as one of the great masterpieces of dutch literature, but i'm still on the fence whether i like it that much. i don't like his writing style a lot, but i can't deny that it has got some brilliance here and there. plus, when i keep reading something, that's usually a good sign. i don't have any patience with books that i don't like. i'm still interested to learn how the plot unfolds.

i'm considering to finally read dante, too, after i've finished this one.

on a classic tip: just started in the divine comedy, bought the aeneas, looking for a copy of the nicomachean ethics.
not to be (or act) 'interesting', i'm just at a point in life where reading these seems important, especially the first and the last.

Haha, Anthony is a legend.
Imagine sharing a bed with Cher as a kid and being looked after by Keith Moon. You were never going to turn out normal.

THE BELL JAR / Sylvia Plath

Im crazy about her poetry but could never imagine being entertained by her novel, and have put off reading it for decades. Im halfway through and while I understand it descends into madness in due course, so far Im surprised by how readable it is. It has a breezy quality reminiscent of some of Salingers fiction. The deftness with striking imagery and psychological candor which is the hallmark of her poetry is all here too, and its something of a page-turner, quite accessible. Im bracing for act two.

Not sure if it counts as reading as I haven't had time to touch the books in months but...

Wheel of Time - Crossroads of Twilight (#10) and putting off finishing A Dance With Dragons because I'm not sure how long it's going to take Martin to finish the next book.

Just finished Girl Gone by Gillian Flynn. Very good, but I'm not sure the ending satisfied me.

Before that I read several other books...."On Folly Beach" by Karen White. Pretty good, but predictable.

One book I truly enjoyed was "Those Who Save Us" by Jenna Blum. Fantastic. I couldn't put it down!

I put off reading The Bell Jar, too. Thought it would be too depressing or something, but also found it very a refreshing and colorful read. I see where you make to connection to Salinger.

I finished The Historian and loved it, will look for her next novel.

Am also reading The Little Book of Perfumes: The hundred classics by Luca Turin & Tania Sanchez. I went straight to the Ks and found that my signature scent, Knowing by Estee Lauder, is there. I must say they have very good taste, now I want to try all the ones I haven't heard of in this book.

Building Stories by Chris Ware

One part graphic novel, one part memorabilia - the sheer enormity of the graphic design, thick and rich paper and printing - I am amazed. I collect most of Ware's work, but this is a crowning achievement. NY Times article about it here: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/21/bo...hris-ware.html
