Latest Movie/DVD you've seen ~ PART 2 - Page 15

I watched The Secret of Kells last night - really cool movie, especially for anyone with any interest in Celtic culture or art (it's animated in the style of Celtic drawings).

Kung Fu Panda 2 Very good, not just for the little kids

Stardust Memories - I can't believe it was my first time viewing. Love the part when he talks to the aliens about why is there so much suffering? What is the meaning of life, etc. and they say "You're asking the wrong questions!" Hilarious.

Finished Sopranos Season Five.

Now watching the English language film about Coco Chanel, Coco Chanel, starring Shirley MacLaine. I preferred the two French films, in part because the "French accents in English" are pretty tedious. I may also simply be getting bored with these "historical fiction" renditions of "the story" of parts of her life.

Oh, you must have seen the version without Ted Levine, Elias Koteas, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max Van Sydow, and Jackie Earl Haley. The unexciting one, without the crazy-sick sets, cinematography and effects.

The Blues Brothers, from 1980. Very entertaining!

X-Men The First Class!

Was awesome! Even though it did not follow the old comic book story line!

Me too. Hellaciously good cast, and Jeremy Irons turns in a darn fine performance.

And yet another movie:

My Piece of the Pie (2011) seriously cheerful comedy-drama about the implications of turbo-capitalism in different walks of life

We saw In Time at the local cinema this evening-- clever movie, worth seeing!

Today I attempted to watch American Psycho 2, featuring Mila Kunis, William Shatner, and directed by Morgan L. Freeman (!).

Shortly after starting the movie, I looked it up on wikipedia. Yeah, that's a different Morgan Freeman, which makes sense, because the movie is really pretty awful. My brother and his gf vetoed me on finishing it, so we switched to something else.

I can't imagine even one fan of the original would enjoy this movie, although it has that "it's so bad it's good" quality to it.

Boomerang (1992). Was enjoyable, though I switched over to something else towards the end.

Sarah's Key. SO FREAKING SAD. Took one for the team on that one...my wife wanted to see it...why do women like such sad movies? Don't we get enough tragedy in real life? I had to emotionally disconnect about 30 minutes in. She owes me two Die Hards and an Unforgiven for that one.

Hahaha, oh man, I can so relate.

I was forced to watch the brutally depressing Revolutionary Road the other day. Why would anyone want to watch that shit? A shallow couple leads a hollow and anger-filled existence. They fight. The end. I was just sitting there thinking, are you f'ing kidding me? But I was strong and made all the way through.

On the other hand, I did like Never Let Me Go, which is pretty sad. I guess "sad" is one thing, and "depressing" is another.

Anyway, we will now be watching the original Star Wars trilogy. This is not negotiable.

Oh, I watched Hanna the other day. It was clever and extremely well-done. A very unique take on the action/spy genre. Imagine the Bourne movies mixed with Pulp Fiction, mixed with maybe Logan's Run or something. Very interesting.

Brian De Palma's Blow Out.

"How come every time you come around my London, London bridge wanna go down"...that part really caught me off guard.

Oh, wow! I just rented Paul, and that was the funniest thing I have seen in AGES!

I finished the Sopranos Season Six. Yes, it's over: 86 scintillating episodes have been digested by me. I don't feel the need to watch it again (as I did and do with The Wire), but this certainly was a superlative piece of social anthropology.

Hats off to David Chase and HBO!!!

I couldn't fall asleep last night as easily as I wished, so I rented a film that looked like it might be funny (has a lot of good actors/actresses) but turned out completely differently than I thought! Your Highness! Not sure what to make of it, but it is sticky and I find myself thinking about it! Not sure everyone would like it though! :-)
