Revolutionary Road is a masterpiece IMO.

I find much more depressing many thrillers or comedies nowadays.

Plein Soleil (1960, released in English as Purple Noon). Starring the young Alain Delon.
My favorite film noir in blazing technicolor!!!!

Much better than the English language remake, The Talented Mr. Ripley, IMNSHO.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 1

Condon did a fantastic job in getting the main characters to really act - some scenes were incredibly well portrayed IMO. Others fell sort of flat. A mixed bag. IMO, the soundtrack sucked. The Iron & Wine track was nice, but the rest was sort of boring.

Well, I watched it with some trepidation, I saw Dogville and thought it extremely provocative, this one I thought was weird, visually interesting and actually kind of liked it. I thought it was worth seeing, in any case, the slow burn of the beginning was painful, I kept thinking, she needs some good meds, someone write her a prescription for antidepressants! ...it got better towards the end, in my opinion.

Hugo.

It totally blew through by expectations, and they were high. Scorsese uses 3D with utter grace and beauty. I have never experienced the very construction of a scene conveying such deep emotion. This is a gorgeous and emotional tribute to the very institution of film, going back to the earliest days.

You should see it.

On Netlix streaming, I just watched one of the most chilling, clever, stylish, and ingenious movies I've ever seen. It's Korean, and it's called in English, "No Mercy." WOW...just WOW.

Erskineville Kings (1999)

Hugo, yes yes. See it in 3-D. It would be a sin to see it in 2-D. Production cost reported as $170 million, and for once the money is all up there on the screen. Amazingly beautiful production design, eloquent film making, and a special treat for anyone who's ever studied anything about the history of movies. Go, you'll love it.

I saw a DVD recently that is one of the best films I've seen in years - it's called 'Since Otar Left', a film shot in Georgian Republic and France - it follows the stories of a mother, daughter and grandmother as they cope with the loss of a loved one - fascinating plot and beautiful characters. Must see! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B082aEXxk4k
