Does anyone know if the Jicky EDP refill bottle could be used on its own, or do you have to have the (girly looking) gold case for it?

No, you don't get the gold case at all, The refill is a plain glass bottle with a sprayer on it.

The refill bottle (same goes for Mitsouko, Shalimar, Nahema etc.) is lovely, except for the primitive cap. I wish the refill EdT bottles were so nice. The clumsy golden cage of the EdT is OK for having it on your dresser or bathroom shelf, but it's a rather big thing to take with you on a journey.
