HELP! Last minute Amsterdam advice needed...

Thread Starter
Going on a trip to Europe, and at the very last minute, decided to spend a day in Amsterdam before heading on to see friends in Germany.

Leaving in twelve hours, so I thought I'd ask folks some last-minute advice, as I know many Basenoters are either from there or visited ( I have, once, as a child, but it was so very long ago and almost a brief a visit as I'll have now ).

People have very helpfully compiled an extremely extensive list of Amsterdam perfumeries over on the regional shopping forum, but I do not have the time to browse sixty or so shops. What are the best two or three shops that have the largest niche selection and are no more than a kilometer or so away from the city center? Any one of them carry Serge Lutens? ( Dying to try Bas de Soie here. )

If you've been there before - your one do-not-miss thing there?

And finally - favorite place to eat that won't cost a month's rent back home? ( I'm not a fast food guy but I'm also really not a fine dining guy either, at least when it comes to maxing out my credit card for a decent dinner. )

Thank you folks sooooo much in advance!

The one store I would recommend most for what you're looking for, and which is rather close to the city center, would be Skins (www.skins.nl). They carry a very broad selection of niche brands including Lutens.

Skins is in a popular but not extremely crowded shopping district called 'De 9 Straatjes' ('9 streets', http://www.de9straatjes.nl), should not be hard to find. This is their full address:

Runstraat 11
Amsterdam
phone +31.20.528.6922

There's a new store called Perfume Lounge (http://www.perfumelounge.nl/en/site/1/0/21) as well, selling several niche brands, but I haven't visited them yet. Also note, I'm not sure if it's still listed on the boards, but the Shu Uemera shop in Magna Plaza is now closed.

Hope you have lots of fun in Amsterdam!

Serge Lutens is available at Skins and at Douglas on P.C. Hooftstraat. I went to both stores on Saturday specifically to try Bas de Soie, but they didn't have it in either store, unfortunately.

Also, http://www.danydiop.com/ stocks brands like Andy Tauer, Montale, MDCI; Vero Kern has been on the way in, not sure if her stuff is available yet.

Enjoy your visit!

Hi! I'm probably too late with the food advise, but anyway...
Any good-looking rijstafel (Indonesian) restaurant will give you lots of great food for a reasonable price. A nasi goreng or bami special (with rice or noodles, respectively) is usually inexpensive and almost as good as more luxurious rijstafel which is rice with assorted side dishes.
