Im looking for something in this range. Im finding Im a fan of Jean-Claud Ellena, but it doesn't have to be his creation, but along those lines couldn't hurt.

I like and own:
Declaration
Chanel Platinum
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver
Terre dHermes
A&F Fierce
CK Euphoria

All are somewhat fresh/aromatic/woody. Anything along these lines you would base a recommendation on?

Thanks guys!

^^ a bit too old school for me, looking from something more modern, but thanks!

Maybe something along the lines of Essenza di Zegna. I believe some describe it as Acqua di Gio with woods.

Have you tried Bigarade Concentrée?

I was just about to recommend Declaration. I love it very much. The begining opens with some similar to yatagan with the cumin and spice rack vibe but that is gong within 5 mins. The dry down in unbelievably fresh and unique. It is one of my signatures and is what I wear when I want to feel intelligent and confident. Most anything in my drobe can be considered my signature because I love them dearly. It almost seems to be a dichotomy to have "Signature" in the plural sense because it's singular meaning implies only one. However, among my signatures are:

Amouage Epic
Cartier Decalaration
The Creed Trinity: GIT, SMW, MY and I'll add Santal Imperial
Hinoki
Mandarina Duck Man
Fille en Aiguilles (for fall and winter)
etc.

Hey MdGrwl,

Your favorites are very close to mine. Very close. For what it's worth, my wishlist includes Diptyque Philosykos, Concentre d'Orange Verte, and Eau de Cartier. Kicking around something from L'Artisan as well--perhaps Fou d'Absinthe or Tea for Two. If our noses are as similar as they appear, these might be worth checking out.

Most cologne addicts can go 10+ years without finding one. You aren't alone

Forget it! If you are a basenoter, and will have this as a hobby, you will test so much good stuff that it`s impossible to pick out one signature scent. I would say go for 6-10 fragrances.

What flaws do you find with the ones you have? It'll make it easier to suggest something.

I love all of these below, so its hard to pick out a 'flaw', but I'll give you a go:

Declaration - almost perfect (in the drydown) - but I'm not a fan of the first 1/2 hour (cummin?)
Chanel Platinum - love it, just not as sensual, more formal in my mind - want more casual
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver - love it, but don't want a vetiver as my 'sig'
Terre d’Hermes - great, but very earthy, think soil. looking for something more well rounded
A&F Fierce - awsome, but don't want to smell like the shopping mall all the time
CK Euphoria - nice, but longevity issues

I'm looking for basically a aromatic woody fragrance. I enjoy Armani Prive Vetiver Babylone but longevity is an issue. I also like Atelier Cologne Bois Blond - but its a bit too 'fem' to me, wish it was a tad more masculine.

I'm basically looking for an Ellena style light/woody aromatic like Vetiver Babylone/Bois Blond. - I guess thats the best way i could describe what I'm after. - Bois Blond just a bit more masculine would be perfect.

Allure Sport, Allure Edition Blanche, John Varvatos Artisan Black, APOM, Fahrenheit 32, Fresco di Vetiver, Profumum Olibanum, Victrix, Fou d'Absinth, Isfarkand, Different company Bergamote.

These are some casual/allround woody/earthy/aromatic scents with citrus/orange(blossom) components I've tried that might fit your bill.

I'm not a real smart guy, so please help me with this. Is it really necessary to have a "signature" scent? I believe that whatever scent you are wearing on any given day is leaving your signature. Where am I going wrong here? So I guess every scent I own, and wear could be considered my signature scent! Am I off base here?

Out of the list you had, I'd go for Euphoria Intense. To make a suggestion out of thin air would be hard for me, but good luck with others suggestions.

+1 Allure homme sport

I'm not sure how "modern" these would be, but some suggestions for testing:

MPG Centaure - lightly minty fougere
l'Anarchiste (Caron) - orange and cedar
MPG Garrigue -a bit dry, but still aromatic
Atao (Lostmarc'h)

If you find you might like things a little bit stronger or darker:

Bogart (Jacques Bogart)
Xeryus (Givenchy)
Knize Forest

And if you haven't tried them yet, it can't hurt (much) to drag Kouros and Yatagan out of the pine forest for a while (Kouros - freshly crushed pine needles, Yatagan - freshly sawn yellow pine)
