hi is chanel l egoiste worth a blind buy not the platinum the original one. also is this suitable for guy in his 20s.
If you like it, sure. I prefer it more than the Platinum, but I wish the current reformulation were stronger and lasted longer.

I think that Egoiste is fantastic! So I would say Egoiste is worth the blind buy. Oh and by the way, Turin/Sanchez in their book The Guide, they gave Egoiste 4 stars and Egoiste Platinum only 2 stars.

Definitely suitable - I like it a lot. The regular version is great but the Concentree is the better of the two IMHO.

One of my all time favourites!

Egoiste is very classy and has that kind of mature elegance almost equally suitable at any age, definitely no generic, linear or predictable scent (btw, Platinum is stunning too)

Egoiste is a very good scent. You must also remember that when Egoiste was first released in 1990, it was marketed towards the young, buying public in the same fashion that today's fragrances are released.

If it was good for a twenty something to wear 20 years ago, why not now?
Egoiste is essentially a cold weather scent. Not as flexible in terms of wearability as it's younger sibling, Platinum Egoiste.

Though age certainly is not a criteria when choosing to buy a fragrance, I think a lot of younger people won't really like Egoiste.

Remember, it's always good to sample first before making a full bottle purchase. Get a small decant and you'd know better.

I find Égoïste both timeless and ageless, I was 23 when I bought my first bottle of it.

For me, blind buying is almost never worth it, unless it's extremely inexpensive (which I would not consider Egoiste). Personally, I didn't really love it when I tried it. This is coming from someone who loves Platinum Egoiste and a few of the other Chanel men's. I think this one might be easy enough to sample at a department store, especially a higher end one (Saks, Neiman Marcus, etc). Perhaps a trip to the mall will end up saving you some money (or confirm your idea to buy a bottle).

+1.

It is one of the best men's fragrances ever created.

I agree. I started wearing it when I was 15. Makes me wonder why I havent purchased another bottle. Well, I guess its off to the CHANEL Boutique today.

Chanel Egoiste is beautiful, but I'd be careful about blind buys

The Egoistes from Chanel are so sour to me that I don't understand the appreciation.
Must be a skin thing.

I checked ratings in your wardrobe and.. I dont think that Egoiste is for you... and IMHO its difficult to pull of by young man. Its definitely not crowd pleaser so test before buy!

I do love it on myself but I could also imagine it smelling awsome on a young man. It has a similar stewed fruit smell to that in Feminite du Bois.

But I would also suggest sampling it first, I have done too many stupid blind buys in my life to recommend it to anybody.

What?! It lasts 20 hours on my skin..

I was whipped into to a frenzy to buy it by their classic commercial years ago. It's a nice scent. Nothing about it to me is particularly dated or too mature.

As to the blind buy, well...if you've read the reviews in the directory and the notes seem like something you'd like go for it.
It is not the kind of scent that many people would likely regret buying.

I think it is a mature scent, but given the right occassion, I would definetely wear it. I wouldn't blind buy ANY fragrance, unless I just have money to blow. I prefer to sample. Because weather it is dirt cheap or not, if you don't like it, you don't like it, and that is money better off spent on something you DO like.

I have been wearing the reformulated version for several years now and feel that it is far more suitable to wear to work than the original, more concentrated version which I used to wear when it first came out. Even when lightly applied, the original was sometimes overwhelming for some of my coworkers. I haven't gotten any negative comments from people about the current version at all. I usually apply 2-3 sprays and can smell it on myself all day long.

It's basically my HG

Love the first 15 minutes but sadly, not the rest. This would have been a risky blind buy for me.

One of the top five or six orientals out there.

Like many of them, owning a bottle and wearing it over time will reveal something entirely different than just smelling it on the back of your hand a few times. It's strong but the sillage (see-yazh) is rarely burdensome like many orientals, and it smells somewhat sublime.

I find it far more pleasant-plush-textural than the shrill, hard, more one dimensional Concentree version, and quality wise I find it close to Bois des Iles, but Egoiste is a lot more satisfying.

One of the top ten fragrance masterpieces of all time in this and every other parallel universe. An absolute must for any well heeled, well rounded wardrobe. Don't question me.

And an unforgettable commercial too!

I bought it blind and was definitely not initially captivated by it.
But recognising that it was unlike anything else I had, I perservered - and it grew on me greatly.
