I wore Rive Gauche Pour Homme today from a sample for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed it, so I'm thinking about buying a full bottle. The one thing which makes me think again is that Caron's 3rd Man is already on my wishlist, and they're fairly similar frags and cost about the same. So, should I get both, or just one, and if so, which?

If you can swing for both, get both. They're both great.

Rive Gauche is more versatile and classy imo.

not similar at all... get both.

I voted both only because to me, they're totally different and I would say both are worth owning. If you were to choose one, however, I would absolutely vote for the Caron. It's a masterpiece and much more of a standout scent. I think RG is great but I didn't replace my bottle when I ran out.

I have both and wear each occasionally, but it's difficult to suggest a choice because they seem so different to me. I guess if you like a lavender floral with some vanilla, go for the Caron; if you like anise and patchouli with a bit of sweetness, go for the Gauche. I guess I would say that the Caron is a bit more conservative than the YSL, if that makes any sense, but both are fine fragrances.

I think you really need both.

They're not similar other than that they are both fougeres.

Buy both, or else you'll never know.

If possible I always get both.....Gary

They're both inexpensive, so if you were head over heels about both, I would get both. I own 3rd Man, but if I had to choose, I would go with Rive Gauche. I NEVER wear my 3rd Man, and would actually like to get rid of it. Sometimes I feel I should just keep it just because. But, I don't wear it, and after occassional wearings, I just feel like it isn't "me".

You should take Rive Gauche first. It is the scent that I get the most good compliments. 3rd Man is a good scent, too. But to compare to Rive Gauche, I think Rive Gauche will be the scent that you think about first whenever you wanna smell more than good.

While initially I found 3rd man to be more pleasant I have quickly forgotten about it and do so after every revisit.
Rive Gauche, however, haunted me until I owned a bottle.
I wear I rarely but always with immense enjoyment. It's distinct.
So I'd get the RGPH, but if you like both, get both.

I'll be one who sticks up for 3rd Man alone. You've got to get only, and think of no other option. Get it exclusively or you'll be miserable for certain.

Can't go wrong with either one, get 'em both!
