Beginner Looking for a Fragrance

Hello everyone, I am a young European male that just got into the world of fragrances.
Three years ago my mom got me my first ever fragrance, which was Attitude by Armani. I liked it but I rarely used it as I was still young and didn't really care .
Three weeks ago I got my first seld-paid fragrance which is The One by D&G. I really like the smell of this frag. The things I like about this frag are the subtle woody notes, and the spiciness. However, like some of you already have stated, the projection and longevity really disappoint me. When I go out I tend to lose the smell pretty quickly and it really doesn't project that well either.

So here is why I registered (after many days of lurking) to basenotes: If I like this frag, but if I want a bit more power, projection and longevity, what frag would you recommend me?
Some other important notes:
-I am looking for a night-out kind of frag, it doesn't have to be fresh / summer-like and I will certainly not wear it daily.
-For those who know One Million by Paco Rabanne: This frag is too much for me, it's too present imo. I would like something in between.

I hope I gave you enough information, thanks in advance!

I think that you may like La Nuit De L'Homme

Try some of the new stuff that's being launced this fall, like Bang:

Notes: Top notes: black, white and pink pepper,
Heart notes: woody notes
Base: elemi resin, aromatic benzoin, vetiver, white moss and patchouli.

+1, exactly what I thought of immediately. Obviously YSL will launch an EDP version this fall, maybe you should check that one out as well, before you buy the regular one.

Another vote for La Nuit.

Hi,
good advice: keep it slow. Long for the best for You. Take care of Your wallet. Try samples before You purchase anything. Having 10..20 fragrances around in form of samples will provide You with the possibility to choose well informed after several wearings of the fragrance in focus. As a novice You taste is quite basic. Allow for some time of education.

Today i just sniffed it. It was not bad in first sight. I found it a little sweet. It has fresh notes in top, and woody. most interesting thing about it was magnetic cap

I was considering La Nuit, I will definately try it out and get a tester if I can get one.

@WildThingy

I will try to get a tester before I buy new fragrances in the future, thanks for the advice.

@Hamid

Thanks all so far!

Looks pretty good, although the resemblance of what I currently own (The One) is huge if I look at the description. I'd like to try it, wonder if it's for sale in Europe.

@petruccijc

I'll keep this one in mind too, thanks. Don't know for sure if they sell it here in Holland though..

Mach03,

If you like The One, you must try Versace Blue Jeans. It is The One on steroids. One or two sprays max will last for a day or two.

Please consider to have more than 10 testers tested before You make a "full bottle purchase". Develop Your own style before losing to much money on mediocre frags. I've more than 15 bottles right now - way to much isn't it? I use 5 for the max.

La Nuit is great: elegant and nice for nights out. Girls love it.

You don't want something too strong, and A*Men can be too strong, but you could try its flanker PURE MALT.

Go and try Xeryus Rouge: not overused and nice.

Fuel for life is one of the more loved frags between young men, it's strong but not in the same way of 1 Million or Le Male.

Is it so obvious??? if YSL launches a EDP version of La Nuit, i'm in for it. My skin eats up fragances, and, though La nuit has serious longevity, i'd like to have something stronger to confront evil le males, chromes and 1 millions when i go out.

I also that La Nuit is a safe bet for what you're considering.

Look at the thread "Adventures at Heathrows", the OP has already seen it in the UK and it also appears on the YSL webpage. I´m curious!

Consider:

Tommy Bahama for Men
Fierce, Abercrombie & Fitch
Oud Wood, Tom Ford (not cheap)
Black Walnut, Banana Republic
Sequoia, Comme d' Garcons (note: it is a literal interpretation of wood...I mean you will smell exactly like wood)

Fragrances seem to last longer if you apply some on unscented clothing, however projection isn't as great.

I will recommend Chanel Allure Homme Sport for a nice, fresh, inoffensive, modern, high quality frag you can easily wear every day. Or, if you really want to step up your game, Chanel Pour Monsieur for something more classic.
