What fragrances smell like incense?

Thread Starter
I was at a pub with my friend last night who works at a place where they burn incense. He received a compliment from the bartender (a friend of ours) who thought he smelled like incense from his work, and he also thought it was him who smelled like incense.

This morning I realized it was probably my cologne they were smelling. I was wearing Rochas Man. In one of the basenotes reviews, someone mentioned that Rochas Man smells like a sandalwood incense stick. I'm kind of upset that he stole my compliment, lol. I hugged the bartender at the end of the night but she didn't indicate she smelled it on me. However, that was about 5 hours later, so maybe my Rochas had faded by then.

Anyway, do you guys agree that it was probably my Rochas Man that they smelled? I had just applied it about 30 minutes beforehand. And what other fragrances smell like incense to you?

Also, have you ever had someone or something else get credit for smelling good, when it was really you? Have you ever had a fragrance compliment, in effect, stolen from you?

I would say there is a pretty decent chance that Rochas Man was what she was smelling. As for a fragrence to look into that has an incense effect to it-check out Body Kouros.

Depends what type of incense type of fragrance you are looking for as there are quite a few. Amouage's Tribute attar has a big smokey frankincense opening and Czech And Speakes No 88 smells like a Rose joss stick. I also believe Tauer do a fragrance called Rose incense though it is a bit overwhelming.

Hmm. I don't get any incense from Rochas Man, but I suppose it's possible she was smelling your cologne.

For fragrances that smell like incense, check out Gucci Pour Homme. Also, Comme Des Garcons has a whole line of them (Avignon, Kyoto, Ouarzazate, etc).

Avignon completely reminds me of church. I can't wear it because I immediately get flashbacks of being a little kid being forced to attend a crowded Easter Sunday mass in an ill-fitting polyester suit and clip-on tie.

Armani Prive 'Bois d'Encens', Aesop 'Mystra', Tauer 'Incense Extreme' & 'Incense Rose' - all more-or-less incense but different in effect. I have the Armani & the Aesop and prefer the Armani but choice is a very personal thing. I tried the two Tauer fragrances & liked them both, but was put off buying them when my husband said, 'Mmm...Rather like kissing the vicar.'

I've never had a fragrance compliment stolen, but I did once walk into the office with an espresso in my hand and the following exchange took place:
Colleague: 'That smells nice, what is it?'
Me: 'Coffee'
Colleague: 'No; your perfume'
Me: 'Coco'
Colleague said nothing but looked confused.

Loewe 7 - is the mono-scent of incense, like in a church

Also, Carlos Santana for men (nag champa smell), and Nino Cerruti (1979 version, has a church incense vibe.) The Kouros pyramid bosts an incense note.

I've never had a fragrance compliment stolen from me, I'm usually the first suspect if someone smells good in my crowd.

I will have to revisit Rochas Man, as I do not perceive an incense smell in the drydown.

Haven't sampled it yet, but isn't Heeley's Cardinal based on the incense they burn in Catholic churches?

I can find absolutely no hint of incense in Body Kouros.

Fahrenheit Absolute? Better than the original, IMO.

If the bartender thought he smelled like incense, then there's little chance it was your Rochas Man he was smelling.

For an excellent incense scent, try to find Gucci Pour Homme. It opens with such a marvelous and rich incense smell. On the cheap end, check out Dirty English. For me, DE has been the best bargain bin find ever.

+1 for original Kouros. I get strong incense in the dry down.

The best incense fragrances IMO:
CdG Avignon
by Kilian Incense Oud
Montale Full Incense
Tom Ford Bois Marocain
Armani Prive Bois d'Encens
Amouage Memoir Man
Amouage Epic Man

Michael Kors has it in the first 2 hours. One man Show has it in the drydown. (OMS's incense note is actually more like the smell of ashes in the aftermath of a raging forest fire lol, far from your Rochas Man)
