I wish Basenotes had a Category (male & female) List of fragrances, eg. characterized as predominantly florals, aquas or blues, grasses, earth, woods, spices...or however best (professionally) they could/should be categorized.

Here are links to a different fume blog. Most of these are either feminine or unisex, but they're good, comprehensive lists of the best (totally subjective, of course) examples in numerous categories.

You can browse the Fragrance Foundation Directory, too. Click on "Fragrance Families" near the bottom of the left-hand menu.

Part of the challenge of categorizing scents in this fashion is everyone has their own opinion as to what family a scent belongs. You may say a scent like Cool Water belongs in the aromatic category, but I say it's fresh. And who's to decide what categories belong and which do not? There have been many attempts over the years but there is no universal consensus on what families ought to exist and which fragrances are members of those families.

Also, I prefer to not be boxed into someone else's perception in this way.
