Today I Bought - September 2010 - Page 3

I've been ebay scavenging. I bought vintage Coty Emeraude pdt, vintage L'Aimant flacon mist, a mini of Raphael Réplique parfum, a vintage No. 5 cologne spray in the black case, and My de Myrurgia edt made in Barcelona (I have no idea what this one is like but I decided it should be mine). These are the first purchases I've made in ages, I think.

Been a while since I posted on this thread! Yesterday, my package of samples came - mostly Les Exclusifs, a Malle (Iris Poudre), Diorama, plus TWO free Caron samples. How nice!

I love reading about the finds on eBay, btw!

Have you tried L'Artisan Coeur de Vétiver Sacré yet (I haven't)? A friend said it smelled like Lipton Iced Tea.

Hi Joe- thanks for the suggestion - I haven't tried this one.
I ordered Tea for Two because it gets so many raves and I just love my lapsong suchong. Heard a lot about Parfumerie Generale's 2 Matale scents so I got those too.

Just got my 8 ml dose of Chanel Bois des Illes today...

Smells a little familiar, as though I have smelt it on some rich middle-aged ladies some years ago, probably in the context of parties held by relatives or sumthing.

That association sort of ruins the anticipation for me, but hopefully not for long!

I bought two samples from The Perfumed Court: Diptyque Eau Duelle and SL Boxeuses.

The Boxeuses is spendy for a 1ml sample, but I've been SO curious about it. Plum + leather sounds SO perfect for me!
Today I clicked the BIN button twice, on a 4ml bottle of Chanel Cuir de Russie EDT and a 15ml bottle of Balenciaga Quadrille parfum, both at a 25% discount for a limited time.

I have bought from this seller before, but the Quadrille was a bit of an impulse buy, although it is completely sealed in it's original box and wrapping paper.Therein lay the attraction!

Also the CdR buy completes my quest for all the great Chanels, a bit of a compromise since my BdI & CdR are only in EDT concentration.

I will enjoy opening the wrapped box of Quadrille carefully when it arrives!

The other day I bought a decant of Boxeuses as well. I've read references to Fem du Bois as its takeoff point, and several reviewers cite reminders of Cuir de Russie and Femme. Plus there's supposedly a licorice note which for me just sealed the deal. Can't help it, I'm a Lutens groupie.
So far this month, I have purchased Smell Bent Prairie Nymph, a partial bottle of CdG Luxe Champaca ♥, and the new EDT version of Prada Infusion d'Iris which I much prefer over the EdP.
A blind buy of Cristobal by Balenciaga and a second back up bottle of Cologne Du 68 by Guerlain both on Evil- bay.

Yes, yes, I am crazily obsessed with the beautifully fresh, yet spicy, Cologne du 68, but this purchase was less than half of the retail price. What's the expression about "going broke saving money?"

In the mail today: an empty 8.5 oz bottle of L'Heure Bleue EDT with about 2 ml of the juice still inside, a sealed 15ml rosebud amphore of Shalimar from the 50s, a 70% full 6 oz bottle of Shalimar EDC(smells more concentrated than the current EDPs), and a tiny 1/4 oz bottle of Mitsouko extrait from the 80s complete with box.Lastly, a 1/2 oz bottle of Coty Imprevu, about 68% full.

These items weren't cheap, but I feel strangely giddy today...hehe

And also, I smell strongly of Shalimar after I took a thick cloth dipped in alcohol to clean the perfume smears from the large conical stopper bottle.

Some ob-scent-vations : LHB EDT hardly smells like the extrait...& Mitsouko extrait(or is it parfum?) smells so strongly of peach!

Absolutely yummy buys, Domperrier ! I love seeing those vintage Guerlain bottles and the cute Mitsouko extrait bottle ....ooohhhh. Each one unique and beautiful

Thanks! My joy at receiving these intact was tempered by dismay at another seller who sent me 19 empty bottles with only bubble wrap between them(no styrofoam!).

No 'fragile' written on the box, which was so small, the bottles were practically touching each other!
Predictably, more than half of them were smashed beyond recognition.

I am thus able to put myself into Ducky's shoes, albeit without the dismay of losing precious juice.
Today I bought 50ml Chamade EDT and got 100ml Shalimar EDP absolutely free. Any Basenoters in or around Newcastle in England, check out the Guerlain stand in Fenwick. It's gift week!

Knit at nite, Imprevu is a very dry, woody chypre that smells lemony -- almost like lemon pledge. I don't remember the commercial. The earliest fragrance ads I remember are "Do you Canoe in Kalamazoo?" and "i can't seem to forget her, her Windsong stays on my mind." Does that date me?

OMG- that is terrible ! I'm sorry about your loss because it is a loss ,domperrier. Terrible seller.

It was a fantastic deal! The Shalimar is a tester bottle - they're giving away their testers if you spend over £50. It was supposed to be free makeup, but they ran out apparently. I was so tempted to spend another £50 and get their Habit Rouge tester, but alas! The bank account can only spare so much.

Still, I'm happy.

My Mom dropped in the thrift store and got Calvin Klein Euphoria 1.7 oz edp75% full (someone obviously got tired of it)Reminds me of With Love but with more patchouli like Angel.
AV edt 1.7oz bout half full -a clean scent like sea island cotton by BBW and Oscar edt 1 oz 95% full-woodsy baby powder on me. $12 for the lot .I had given her a crystal bottle of #5 parfum that was about 65% full of a .33 or .25 oz bottle .#5 is Mom's style much more than mine -I still have a purse mini for "reference".
A fairly modern scent for me...not my usual fare: Narciso Rodriguez For Her edt in the black bottle. The whole black bottle vs pink bottle with the reverse color packaging is not only confusing...it's annoying. The two scents smell very, very different!
Just scored a 50ml NIB Divine eau de Parfum on ebay for 70 bucks. Hope it's the real thing. I just remembered that Divine's are refillable atomizers. Hope the juice hasn't been replaced. I don't feel like opening a can...oops, I mean a case with paypal.
I didn't buy anything today, but I won Clinique's Aromatics Elixir and Estee Lauder's Pleasures in a charity raffle!
Samples for me. Mona di Orio's Cuir and the dreaded Secretions Magnifique . SM is one I have been meaning to subject myself to - somehow I always forget about it when ordering from Luckyscent. This time I didn't - I made a conscious effort to remember. ( I think really, subconsciously, I don't want to try SM at all ..... )*LOL*
post #164 of 250
Last night I bought the interesting combination of Bulgari Pour Femme (6 mini bottles - 30 ml total! If I don't like it at least the mini's have gift or swap potential) and a 75% full bottle of Yendi de Capucci edt (I hope it's not too-o-o different from the EDP I sampled recently). Both from Ebay, I think I got a good deal both times.
My vintage , and full, bottle of Dana's 20Carats (with gold flakes) arrived today!!!!
From E-bay. Wrapped so well they could have played football with it at the postoffice! And the seller send it marked ''gift'' so no extra taxes.

Such fast shipping and great service from Parfums Raffy ! I also got the 3 Opus Collection samples - luxe and gorgeous included plus Amouage Gold body lotion - a generous sample and 2 of Raffy's own fragrances.... so I am dying to test those out ! Thank you Raffy !

Today I received my first taste of YSL's original Opium...and snagged a 30 ml bottle of Mitsouko EDT from the '80s.

Six digits in the batch code....should be it.

$31.49 for the pair ; money well-spent, methinks.

My previously reported blind buy of Cristobal by Balenciaga arrived today. I'm really liking it- very classy smelling, not too sweet. Fig with a sandalwood vanilla dydown.

I also blew the budget on two vintage EDC from Guerlain. Added a 3 oz bottle of L'Heure Bleu and a 6 oz bottle of Mitsouko. First time purchase of LB. Have a current EDT of Mitsy, so I'm excited to add an older version, even if EDC, to the collection. I will be jumping up and down when it arrives.

Also picked up (blind) a Molyneux called Le Parfum Connu. The info that was with the listing is: "Le Parfum Connu by Molyneux, originally launched in 1925 as Le Numero Cinq de Molyneux (Number 5 by Molyneux) and it stirred some controversy between Molyneux and Chanel, so by 1930, Molyneux had to change the name of the perfume to Le Parfum de Molyneux. It was later called Le Parfum Connu for the American market and introduced in 1948. The eau de toilette version of this came out in 1949 in the same bottle as the one I purchased, so that’s where we can date it from 1949-1950s."
Haven't fully tested this yet but seems like one of those rich aldehydes one would have worn with a fur coat in winter.
Today my Guerlain DJEDI arrived! I don't think I've ever been more excited about a perfume purchase! This is one that will become a family heirloom!

This is the exceedingly rare quadrilobe Djedi presentation issued in Baccarat crystal (80ml), with gold tooled suede flocked box with cream silk lining. There is approximately 30ml of vintage extrait decanted in the smaller bottle, which is spec-tac-u-lar!

I received two Baccarat crystal pieces today, and a whole lot of other mouth-watering stuff:

-A 6.75 " amphora filled with 2 oz of vintage Miss Dior parfum [Baccarat crystal- star at the base]

-A 6 " empty fan-shaped bottle(complete with Marly horse mauve box) of Shalimar [Baccarat crystal -logo at base]

-3 sizes of Opium parfum : 1 oz , 1/2 oz and 0.25 oz from the 80s

-A 5" crystal bottle of Lentheric Miracle perfume

- A 1/3 oz bottle of vintage No. 5 perfume(not in picture)

- A 1/4 oz full bottle of Gucci EDP from the 80s(not in picture)

- Two 6 " tall lead crystal perfume bottles made in West Germany(not in picture)

Under $200 for all the above, so I doubt I overpaid.

And this is my updated Shalimar bottle & perfume collection...still missing the EDP & EDT concentrations, but the former is on its way!
