Imperial Opoponax by Les Nereides falls into my lap (almost)

I was extremely lucky last week to find a bottle of Imperial
Opoponax by Les Nereides in TKMaxx for the unbelievable price of
£9.00! I took it away with me on a short spa break and soon fell
under its considerable charms.

I am not sure if is meant to be worn by a woman, but I have certainly felt
good wearing it and am slowly getting to know it better. It is sweet, smooth, deeply
sensuous, resinous, powdery, brooding and very addictive; a woody oriental
scent made up of myrrh, benzoin, sandalwood, vanilla and some kind of orangey
citrus smell I can't quite place. All I know is I am so glad I came across it.

I can envisage myself wearing this in the depths of winter with its wonderful
scent wafting up from a cashmere jumper or a velvet dress.
I shall be keeping an eye out for any other Les Nereides bottles that appear in
TKMaxx over the next few weeks and advise you all to do the same.

I love it! Haven't worn it for a long time, but must soon, at least when the weather gets chillier.

I do not have much left, but I have loved and worn it since 2006 -- as introduced to me by Tinker -- it is gender-free, I believe.

OMG what a terrific find! It is so gorgeous and totally wearable by a woman in my humble opinion. I have a sample and have always wanted to get a bottle of this. I had Or des Indes which I loved but it just never got as warm as the Opoponax so I never wore it.

It is like a warm fuzzy cashmere sweater in a bottle

Thank you Jane Daly! I agree totally with your description of IO.

This is great stuff and deserves a lot more recognition!

Agreed. I wouldn't have expected any doubt about its suitability for ladies. Beautiful, fragrantly, as well as in its "genderlessness".

Inspired by Kewart I too wandered into my local TKMaxx this morning. Well I spotted a Les Nereides candle in Bois Blanc for £7, but sniffing it did not fancy it. So searched a bit more and there sat one bottle of Imperial Opoponax. Now this is a blind buy but hell at £9 for 100mls and the fact I love opoponax fragrances anyway a total no brainer.

So thank you Kewart for the head's up.

That's great Donna255! Let me know whether you like it or not.
If not, I'll definitely buy it off you.

Sorry Kewart, but I just love it. Everything you said in the first post.

Does that mean it is discontinued?

Twolf sent me a sample some time ago, and I smell it sparingly, because I don't want to finish it. As I remember, for a niche perfume it is not too expensive. Maybe I should look it up at Luckyscent.

Popped my head in TK today, but no goodies for me! I'll keep an eye out!

Does everyone know they now sell a lot of stuff online? The fragrance bit is worth a browse and they even have the reduced 'sale' prices like instore.

Luckyscent still sells Les Nereides scents, but they have disappeared from their own website, only jewellery is left.

No, TKMaxx does not sell all discontinued stuff. Think if a store or whoever had an overstock TKMaxx buy it up and sell on. Last year as I said quite a few Creeds appeared and none of them discontinued. You see Shalimar alot too.

Imperial Opoponax just showed up on the TK Maxx website (UK)! They have Oriental Lumpur too. Just ordered a bottle. Hope I get the right one, this time. I ended up with a Vert D'Eau instead of one of the Musks last time, but their customer service was ace and they made good with no quibbles. Easy to do - those boxes only have a teeny fragrance name sticker on the side!

Looking at the pic, the reason they are ending up here might be due to a bottle redesign.

Thanks to you kewart, l have just bought a bottle online from TKMaxx! Who'd have thought you could find niche frags in there of all places? Hurry people, they've only got 2 left! l've been tempted to try this one for a while, & at that price l'm happy to risk a blind buy. Thanks again!

They had very small bottles of it in my local TK Maxx last week for £3.99 , I had a quick sniffter and almost brought it
post #18 of 26
Heads up people the other fragrances from this range are now in TKMaxx at £9.99.
Vert, the two musks and oriental.

I am fond of Imperial Opoponax and it certainly is unisex.

Great to see people getting good deals on this.

Sad to hear that the line may be discontinued.

Oh I'm so glad you loved it Teardrop. I think it will be a great winter
scent and can't wait to wear it on a really cold day.

Me too! l can see myself curling up with this beauty on many a cold winter's night. A masterpiece of enabling kewart, hats off to you!

It's back in! I missed it the first time around, but it's back on the website (alongside a picture of Musc de Java, oddly), along with a few other Les Nereides scents.

for £9.00 that was cheap.that stuff retails for almost £50 so I really envy you on that.do u still have some on you.I do love the opoponax in Chanel Pour Monsieur concentree.great stuff and that got me intrigued on this.not yet tried it but I have been looking for a fragrance that takes off on the dry down that features in CPM concentree.I am looking forward to trying this and am sure I will love it.i think you are not using yours so you must do well to pass it on to me.I will keep checking my local TK Maxx and see if they will stock it one day again.

TK Maxx can have hidden treasures on occasions. L'Artisan Parfumeur being the last ones. Tea for Two and Voleur de Roses under £25, I bought the latter as I own a older version of the former.

Anyway thanks .will keep searching
