San Francisco Basenotes Gathering :-)

(I hope the others join me here with their comments- didn't know where to put it)

Today was just glorious. For starters, Allen is a spot perfect host who thought of everything. Every store was expecting us, most with goody bags. Allen himself is very sociable and gregarious, which set the mood for the entire day.

We started at Diptique, and got a lovely goody bag. I'm wearing their new scent as i type!! Next was hermes, which for me was the least enjoyable, (smallest selection, not really meshing with my skin chemistry) We then visited a small boutique to see comme des garcons, this was so so.

And then we went to store that caused me to throw a scene and almost pee my pants. Perfumes Jacqueline (something like that). Shelves and shelves of Carons. Guess what I bought???? Prepare yourself: vintage Pois de Senteur parfum. For $100. I'm beside myself, and had to take a seat afterwards.

Next was Nieman marcus, way cool. i got a sample of Atrape Coeur and liu, this after barely recovering from my Caron purchase.

And then there was the finale: Barneys. This is where all good perfume lovers die and go to heaven. They have everything: heeley, a different company, Frederic malle, Byredo, Antonia's flowers, Serge lutens, oi the list...

AND.... i got an auro reading from Yosh, of Yosh perfumes. I'll start a different thread on that one.
i'm exhausted, sniffed out, and i have a headache (it was hot in SF today, and we smelled too much)

But oi.... bliss bliss bliss!!!!

Glad you had such a good time. I am looking forward to pictures and more details. Perhaps next year I will be able to attend this annual event. The Bay Area is where I grew up and I miss the weather, the City, and the shopping.

Feeling a little homesick, play this youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryF9p-nqsWw&feature=fvw

I look forward to hearing all about it! I'm a little jealous to have not made the drive up, but then I look over at my beautiful, sleeping boy and think, "That's okay. Next year!" I am curious to hear what was in the goodie bags though!

Here's what keeps me sticking close to home lately:

Just a quick note -- ill write more tomorrow about the goodie bags and all (wow, Barneys was REALLY nice to us!)
So, anyway, what a great time. Thanks much to Allen for arranging it all for us!.
Though I was nose fatigued by our last stop Barneys -- even so the Luten's Bois de Violette (which id never smelled before) cut through the fog of my overwhelmed senses and was love at first sniff. I bought a bottle as quick as I could because I HAD to. (the DH is laughing at me right now as my wrist is glued to my nose.)
I loved meeting you, my fellow basenoters! I'll post some photos tomorrow. (I have a nice photo of baykat and her treasure.)
Night all!

This is Joseph! He was kinda skinny when he was born and is still a bit lean, though his arms and legs have filled out nicely (to my relief). I wonder if it had something to do with the diet I was required to be on for gestational diabetes (low carb and sugar). However, our pediatrician says some babies are just lean, he eats plenty, and he's gaining weight appropriately. I was looking at my baby pics last week and saw what my mother has always said: I was a FAT baby! I had JOWLS and arms like ham hocks with little fists attached!

He he! Hopefully N_Tesla and Mimi will make it to one of these some day...

Thanks for the nice words, everyone. This was definitely fun.

I started a thread on the mens board with the few pictures I took. Hopefully people can add their stuff there, too.

It's time for bed, but I really need to go through my sample haul and see what I ended up with...

Thanks to everyone for participating!

Thanks, BayKAT and Rogalal, for posting your experiences and pictures! Looks like it was a fun gathering full of good shopping karma! :-)

I've posted my thoughts over at the Men's board, but I just wanted to say an extra thanks to Allen and everyone who participated here too! I had a wonderful time. (It's times like this when the Male/Female boards split seems especially counterproductive.)

cross posted from men's forum:

My fragrant friends!
I have just returned safely home to my "between SB and LA" abode a few minutes ago from the fabulous SF meetup and will devour every word of these reports in a few minutes.
First- a HUGE thank you to Rogalal for a monumental job organizing a wonderful day of sniffing and companionship both from people and the amazing little dog Gizmo, too. VIVA Basenotes!

BayKAT- hope the headache is history!

Some day, we're going to have to get some of you L.A. folks up here...

As well as Mimi and Tesla!

Heading over to the men's section to read more.
BayKat, I can understand getting a headache but fighting on. What a sniffer trooper!
Heartwood, I'm mesmerized by Joseph's bright eyes. I predict he's going to be an exceptionally well-behaved person. Mark my words.
Knit at Night, you're having too much fun in one year.
