How often do you regret your SOTD?

How often do you regret your choice for SOTD?

The scenario that runs through my mind: you get up, clean up, put on your SOTD, go about your business and say to yourself something like: "I made a mistake today. It just doesn't feel right."

And I am not referring to experimenting with samples; rather things from your wardrobe.

For me, maybe 5 to 10 times a year I fall into this category.

I never regret my SOTD.

Has only happened once or twice that I can recall.
Hardly ever, since whenever I put on my SOTD, I even get in advance the feeling that it's going to be joyous occasion, in tune with my best mood and also with whatever I have planned for that particular day
post #6 of 37
A couple of times , I guess. It doesn't happen very often . Anyhow, you can change your scent when the first choice wears off.
It happens to me sometimes when I have something new that I have never tried in public before but that I am so excited about that I had to let the world know - appropriate or not, overapplied or not.

I never regret my scent of the day, or I should say scents of the day as I always spray one in the morning and then another around 6pm, to last me through the evening.

I regretted my SOTD today, which was Gucci's Envy (for men).
It was much warmer inside the library than I had anticipated...
I rarely regret it, I normally wear a fragrance which suits my mood, weather, attire and occasion.
I suppose it has happened once or twice. I remember for instance wearing a not-especially-light application of Calvin on a day when I ended up attending a meeting in a small and poorly ventilated room. But I wouldn't say I regretted my SOTD, more like I regretted having to attend the meeting!

The changeable weather here in the UK can sometimes make the choice difficult. l have a scent called Flower Market by Lush with a strong violet leaf note, which for me only works in cool, damp weather. l remember once applying it on such a morning only for the weather to turn very warm later in the day, when it became overwhelmingly suffocating & l couldn't wait to get home & shower it off. Now l only wear it when l'm certain it's going to rain all day!

only time i ever regretted my SotD was when i wore givenchy play intense on a warm day

Saturday I decided for some reason to wear the remainder of my Body Kouros sample. As well as the remainder of my Winter Delice sample
throughout the evening I was thinking "WTF DULLAH"
It does happen on occasions, but usually I can live with it, and just make a mental note to give it a miss for a while. I am more likely to regret the under or over application of something.
It's pretty rare that I flat out regret it, but it does happen often enough that I'd wish I would have chosen something else that would have ended up being more appropriate. This is usually due to an unforeseen change in circumstances.

That could be rough! I find that it's wearable in the heat though with a single spray. Still not an ideal hot weather choice but it's doable - much more so than say, A*men!
I used to regret it all the time. I wasn't overly keen on many of the frags I used to own, but now I've improved my collection I can choose more easily.

Today and a few months ago i wore A*Men and ended up doing alot of running...that stuff gets really nasty mixing with sweat

It happens to me quite often. Sometimes I'm not sure even as I spray in the morning, but I think I'll give it a go. Sometimes it works out well, sometimes not. I have a tendancy to make hasty decisions about a scent and welcome those chances to have my mind changed by wearing it again some time later. I may be in love with the idea of a scent and hope it will influence my mood for the better. This is true especially if things are not going very well.

I'm considering wearing a different scent every day next year so I can try all the samples, decants, and bottles now in my wardrobe, plus more samples to come from random drop-ins at the perfumery counters. I loved the Women Perfumers' Month we had a couple of years ago; I discovered new delights that I'd been ingoring or misinterpreting (and a few hellish stinkers, too).

Not counting samples, almost never. There have been times where my SOTD has changed mid-day.....for instance if I was being highly physically active and then switching to a more professional/upscale look for after work or something. But these days, I have limited my wardrobe to fragrances I love, so I rarely regret my choice.

Only time I have regrets is when I forget to wear anything. Makes the day that much more boring.
I typically have to apply pretty heavily to get much projection, so I really loaded up on Polo Modern Reserve when my family and I were at Disney World a couple months ago. I swear the scent cloud was visible. It was green.

Not that I don't love the scent, but it was over the top in the humidity. Plus, I'm not one to fill a room with my fragrance. Under most circumstances, I don't want to be smelled beyond a couple of feet, so the thought of leaving a trail behind me in such a busy place was embarrassing.

I have regretted overapplying certain winter/fall frags & wearing them in the summer...not a good thing. Noob mistake.
"Regret" probably isn't the right word, but the first time I wore Musc Ravageur as my SotD, I wore it to the office. And, um, let's just say I was a little, ahem, overcome by the, um, realism of the musk.

My concentration was utterly shot for the day. I mean, it was fabulous, and I lovelovelove MR, but if I want to get anything done at work, I can't wear MR.

A couple times. Usually I'll be in the mood for a fragrance a couple days at a time, but then I think I should wear something new. Only to end up wishing I had put on the original choice. Another time I wore London because I thought it was going to be cool and rainy, only for it to end up being warm and sunny. Not good.
Actually quite often.
The days I am struggling hard what to wear is when I am most likely to feel sorry, later.
When I 'wish' to get my scent noticed because I may be meeting someone important or special, I screw it up almost everytime.

I talk myself into wearing Black Aoud for such occasions even when I shouldn't be touching that bottle with a 10 foot pole on a 'hottish' day....The result is not too hard to guess
post #29 of 37
Here's the thing...

The scents that I most appreciate and that I get the most excited about are the spicy orientals. I have tried thousands of fragrances and yet I always feel the most 'comfortable' and the most 'well dressed' in an oriental. But, living in Miami, this can be a problem as wearing a complex, spicy and/or sweet oriental fragrance mixed with perspiration (I tend to sweat a lot!) can be sort of gross.

So, I wouldn't say this happens often, but at least once or twice a month.

Regret is a strong word...but there are some days I wish I'd worn something else.

But it's not that bad since I prefer the discreet style of fragrancewear & carry a small decant from my more versatile options as backup.
Honestly? Never... I tend to think of my SOTD way too deeply before deciding on it.

I guess I am the oddball here.

On any given day over half of what I have is a wrong choice for that day. After careful contemplation, I have 98-99% success.
Every now and then. My mood changes, my plans change or something just ends up feeling a little oppressive, or slightly insipid. It happens.
Quite often. A lot of fragrances that I like make my nose hurt and I'm miserable. Sometimes with a new fragrance I don't realize this for a couple of hours and then it is too late.
Hardly ever. My "secret" is not to plan/decide beforehand what to wear but to pick what I'm in the mood for.
Happens to me two or three times a year. The regret is usually related to weather or activity - I end up in a hot room, or find myself working up a sweat while wearing something that doesn't work well with heat - or I'm sampling something that I end up not liking. Today, for example. It's D&G The One Gentleman. Somebody somewhere likes it, I'm sure. It's definitlely not for me.
