best SMELLLING fragrances in your opinion.

The question is, what are your favorite SMELLLING colognes. the most pleasant smelling. the best smellling. NOT "unique" or watever. not best longevity. not best projection. none of that matters for this question. the question is simple, for however long it lasts or how close u have to get, what smells the best

My favorite smell ever originating from a fragrance is the top notes of Parfum DelRae's Amoureuse. It develops in another direction, but that moment, that first spritz, is heaven.

For me, Bois Marocain by Tom Ford, but not many people share that opinion!

Runners up: GiT, M7, L'AdDM

What's yours?

hm... for me, its a tossup between pure malt and le male.

Amouage Reflection Man

also, the first hour or two of MPG Bois de Turquie (the rest is really good, too, but those first couple of hours are divine!)

Of course, I think all in my top 12 (and a number of others) are absolutely amazing smelling throughout.

Jonny, since you love Le Male so much, you should really check out a few of the niche scents that have been compared to Le Male but are generally seen as better scents all around (at least in regards to ingredient quality).

The two that I can think of that fit the bill are Amouage Reflection Man and Invasion Barbare from MCDI. Given your love of Le Male, it'd be worth the few bucks for samples from Luckyscent, imo.

why Tobacco Vanille of course!

Jonny, do this at your own risk because "once you smell niche, you'll want to switch!"

On me I think it is Chergui and Scandal Lanvin when it settles into a smoky-leathery skin scent
post #26 of 58
I know I mentioned this fragrance already but the top notes of Amouage Reflection are absolutely divine. When I first smelled the scent I was taken aback and literally breathless because of its beauty. I immediately knew I needed this fragrance! It was the most poignant "OMG that is BEAUTIFUL!" type moment I've yet to experience since starting this journey. It was far more beautiful than my pathetic attempt to describe the experience here. This post does it little justice.

Vintage Bandit. Just opening the bottle and getting miniscule amounts on my fingertips has me sniffing my hand obsessively for the next hour or so, it's ridiculous. Also Fumerie Turque, Comme des Garcons Parfum and Eau Noire, although in the last case it smells by far the best on a specific person.

+1 here. Nio is amazing, my favourite from Xerjoff to date and what I consider as top quality when it comes to smelling. My other favourites are Hesperides by Essenze di Mezzanotte (my favourite coconut/citrus based fragrance) and all of the fragrances I've tried from Antimateria are top quality for me.

Egoiste Cologne Concentree
Ormonde Man
Gucci Envy

I (like most of us, I suspect) go through fits and starts with all types of fragrances, sometimes certain notes, sometimes certain houses, but these three are all I actually require. If my house were on fire, I'd grab these and then see if it were safe enough to go back for my girlfriend.

Nice, I don't see Polo Double Black get much love at all, but I like it as well. For me, GIT rules this one...it just smells amazing start to finish. I'll also +1 for Rochas Man and I'll throw in one complete oddball - Ralph Lauren Big Pony #1. Yes, it has absolutely no sillage or longevity (may as well be a body spray), but I can't lie, as simple & linear as it is, it truly has a great, refreshing citrus & woods smell to it.

Dior Homme Intense

Don't actually believe it exists, but for me, if I could find something that smells like Pure Malt, minus the monstrous sugar hit, I would be buying up a lifetime supply. When it gets cold enough, I like to wear Pure Malt and imagine what could have been.

Pure Oud & Agar Musk are positively remarkable, smells like a beautiful Dry Erase Marker... expensive though!

Molecule 01 is breathtaking when you are able to smell it. (ie. on a t-shirt the following day! Mmmmm!)

CK BE is one of my all-time, LONG TIME favorite scents. Inexpensive too. Just unbeatable in all ways!
