Lucky for Arizona, Frederic Malle decided to swing by Barney's and visit with guests. I was fortunate enough to attend the event and have the chance to smell out the new line of candles. Aside from this, I had a in depth conversation about the company and any other questions I had. Really interesting and peculiar guy. He has an extreme eye for detail. In mid conversation he's talking to me about how Musc Ravageur was made and suddenly his eyes light up and he get's this weird look on his face and walks over to one of the smelling booths and points up to a window sealant that is crooked and begins to take pictures of it with his iPhone. He proceeds to talk to me as his eyes are still fixed on that one blemish. Ha ha, it was pretty funny.
One of the funniest things about him was when I asked him how Editions de Parfums started. His answer? We were bored. His mother was a part of Dior and with the connections he got together with all of his favorite perfumers that wanted to do something which expressed individual artistry and freedom, so EdP with Frederic Malle took it's course. Each fragrance was created individually in the perfumers labs. Example: Maurice Roucel creating Musc Ravageur through Symrise lab. This was interesting to me as I had always imagined Frederic Malle had his own lab where the perfumers would create the fragrances. The whole journey of Editions de Parfums was eye opening to hear about and I hope you all receive the chance to meet Frederic someday. Don't be surprised if he's a little loopy. He's been traveling non-stop dealing with jet lag and other business affairs.
Some news that I'm not sure has already been shared here. Dominique Ropion has just finished another fragrance which will join the Frederic Malle line-up coming supposedly, Christmas time. He said he's very excited about the release. Nothing else was said, if anyone knows please share. Other than that, the candle line seemed to be a real hit for the evening and I was impressed. He said he couldn't be happier about the creations. His excitement about his company and the people he works with was inspiring.
Just thought I'd share...
Cheers,
