The tobacco like note that is very strong to me. I am not sure it's not in fact leather.I grew up when cars had leather seats , men smoked cigars at Christmas . I don't like cigarettes or even leather as such. Maybe you have a better nose than me , most do I struggle to explain what hit me but it was love at first sniff !

Have you ever tried My Sin? It can still be had for a rather reasonable price on ebay.

Oh yes I love that too and have more of it. I also love L'origin and find Apres L'ondee pretty close.

Have you ever sampled Serge Lutens Sarrasins? It's not that it comes anything near the roughness of a real cuir-de-russie like Scandal, but if you get the leathery undertone with the indolic jasmine and osmanthus (I take it that it depends on skin chemistry a lot with this) - no smoke here though, you might like it. I think it is damn sexy, not loud at all - so, do overspray and see what it does for you! Just an idea.... Current leathers usually fail to impress me fully when it comes to actually resemble leather. I simply don't get it. Have you tried Knize Ten though?

Do report back please, I'd be really interested in your opinion. I made Sarrasins my SotD and dabbed my right wrist with plenty of Scandal. I used my very old bottle (I assume from the 1940 or 50s)... boy, this stuff is so filthy. Due to the age it takes me right into the heart (and base after 2 hours). This really takes you into a Film Noir setting of the 1940s... smoke, booze, fur, dirty leather, filth and yes, smoke again
Sarrasins is nothing like it... it's very modern, has a plastic-y vibe, but I can't say why it does take you to a similar place in a modern setting. Do overspray when you sample it!
Enjoy the sampling!

In case you are not following BN regularly, I want to add here that I was blown away how similar vintage Crepe de Chine by Millot to Scandal smells. To my nose it is the same leather (cuir-de-russie) in a very dark, bitter-spicy setting with the leather fading out more quickly, but reaching a moment of divinity with the florals (I assume jasmine) coming to the foreground more. Crepe de Chine is not about the divine melting of the cuir-de-russie and skanky/smoky Scandal with your own skin and lingering on for hours. This is unrivalled to my (limited) experience. Vintage Crepe de Chine can still be had at an affordable price.

ADDITION: Maybe if a mod reading this agrees, this thread would be better off in the Female section?
