Very Rare Group of Lobsters in CT Aquarium

This is about as off-topic as you can reasonable go, lol. But, I was snooping around the internet the other day when I came upon an article in AOL news about an exhibit at a nearby aquarium, that contained three very rare lobsters. The lobsters in question are a blue lobster (likelihood of seeing in the wild 1:million), a calico lobster (likelihood of seeing in the wild 1:30 million) and a pumpkin lobster (likelihood of seeing in the wild, also 1:30 million). The real news, however, is that according to a local math professor, the chances of encountering these three lobsters TOGETHER in the wild is a whopping 1:900 quintillion (or 900,000,000,000,000,000,000). That's amazing. Also, I've been to said aquarium, and seen the blue ones before, they're absolutely stunning up close.

Cool! We were at the Mystic Aquarium in August but unfortunately didn't see the lobsters. Or are these in Norwalk?

I wonder how they taste

Yep, the Maritime Aquarium.

They actually mention, perhaps the most amazing fact, that even though they all have different shells, they are exactly the same inside, and will all taste the same.

Are their claws taped so they don't attack each other?

Very cool! Thanks for sharing.

Not until they are cooked, normally!

And yes, the claws have elastic bands around them so they don't fight each other or injure the employees if they have to be handled.

I wonder if they're like prawns. When I was younger a guide at a prawn farm told me that a prawn's favourite food is prawns.

Damn! I would like to see the mathematical logic he used to come to that conclusion - statistics fascinate me. My guess would be that you'd have to take the total underwater space inhabited by lobsters, factor in the distribution of lobsters in each "encountering" zone (however small of an area would allow you to "encounter" something). Then you'd have the changes of seeing any three lobsters at once, let alone colored ones. THEN do the standard lobster population calculations (the chances of each color occurring, genetically) and apply that to the geographic distribution framework.

Anyway, pretty lobsters! I do like that blue one.

Why do I think like that?
