Amber Absolute is one of the very best ambers l've tried.

The only other Tom Ford l've tried is Velvet Gardenia, which people seem to either love or hate. l love it because it has notes that evoke a particular memory for me.

Tuscan Leather
Tobacco Vanille
Amber Absolute
Bois Rouge (discontinued )
Urban Musk (modern animalic musk, might not be your thing)

It seems like the majority of the responses are in favor of Tobacco Vanille, Tuscan Leather, and Italian Cypress.

Amber absolute sounds intriguing. The only amber that I have tried was L’Artisan: L’eau d’Ambre Extreme. Have you tried that frag?

I'm not sure about Italian Cypress, but I would bet that TV and TL and the best sellers from Tom Ford among men.

Absolutely agree. These are the best 3 scents in the line although pretty much all of them are fantastic.

Italian Cypress out of the bottle and on the skin are different beasts. I'd try that one not on paper, but skin.

That said, that's one of my faves, Oud Wood, Grey Vetiver and oddly enough, White Suede. My body chemistry makes it smell TOTALLY different than from the bottle or on paper. Same with Italian Cypress.

The feedback has been excellent. I truly appreciate it. Can anyone recommend a store where I could test some of them before buying?

Ambre Extreme is just Amber Essential Oil. Amber Absolute is a stronger, denser and deeper Amber, with a syrpy feel to it, some Caramel in the base as well. Amber Absolute is probably the most under-rated Tom Ford.

Nordstrom, Saks and Nieman Marcus has a lot of the Private Blend series.

I've actually been layering Tobacco Vanille with Oud Wood to a pretty delightful effect.

I had a chat with the Tom Ford rep at NM, and he told me that the impetus behind the Private Blend was to make simple scents that could be easily layered and "blended" into a personal signature. Then he gave me a ton of samples, and I've started blending....

I also think Grey Vetiver is good.

I don't think all Nordstroms carry the Private Blend series, so I would call first.

Special Blends:

Moss Breches
Noir de Noir
Bois Rouge

Grey Vetiver isn't half bad, either, and is much cheaper.
I just ordered samples of the white Musk collection - I sniffed them at a store and really liked them a lot
post #38 of 44
I've only sampled TV, TL, and Grey Vetiver and of the three I love TV the most (after 3 hours probably!). GV is more versatile, I don't see a problem with wearing this to work, a casual nightout, or even with classy more formal wears.

Tuscan Leather however, I cannot find myself an occasion to wear it or suitable clothings to wear it with. Plus it makes me smell like I've been shopping for a new leather sofa.

I went to Nordstroms today and had a chance to check out some of the TF Private Blends. My favorites were Tuscan Leather, Moss Breches, Amber Absolute, and Tobacco Vanille.

I did not get a chance to try Grey Vetiver, because the store did not have a tester. However, the insight provided by each of you was appreciated.
