What are the top COMFORT scents?

Looking for a great snuggly comfort scent, NOT sensual, like Musc Ravageur, something that reminds you of an open fire, cashmere sweaters, cocoa and slippers!
Dior Homme.
Infusion d´Homme by Prada and Mugler Cologne for example
post #4 of 113
I made a thread like this not too long ago. Most of the replies were niches I couldn't afford

You might wanna look it up under my threads

The lavender in Caron's Pour Un Homme makes this a comfort scent. It's very affordable with some discounters, under $50.00 USD.

Besides almost anything in my wardrobe taking up this role subjectively and sentimentally, I do get a tremendous amount of comforting fragrance notes from almost anything smelling "Old School", in an antiquated way without being dated, something reminding of vintage artwork, historical buildings, rare books etc. like Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet, Creed REL and BDP, Esencia Loewe, GFT Spanish Leather

Blenheim Bouquet- slipper and even cashmere sweaters mood, without much of the open fire or cocoa
Creed REL and BDP- lush spices with more pronounced comforting, rather than sensual touch
GFT Spanish Leather- a scholarly atmosphere of erudite reading in an oddly familiar and comforting setting, e.g. precious books bound in leather and gold leaf, casually resting of a leather sofa or in an antique, richly decorated woody shelf
Esencia Loewe- a dark powerhouse frag, very little cocoas and slippers mood, yet reminding of something more warm, casual and comforting than an alpha-male powerhouse, here, the cashmere sweater and open fire suggestions are very strong, with a hint of dark and powdery- yet not sweet, morbid or sensual- male florals

Annick Goutal Sables (note: you must like immortelle!).

A*MEN Pure Coffee kinda fits the bill.
This may sound wierd, but I love curling up with a mug of coffee, a good book, and vintage Opium.
New Haarlem by Bond no.9 is very comforting to me. So is Opium PH.

Les Nereides lmperial Opoponax, Tom Ford Amber Absolute or Profumum Ambra Aurea. All of these suggest such comforting surroundings for me, & all are definitely unisex.

For me, it really depends on what time of year it is. In the summer heat I get my comfort from the smell of neroli, verbena and bitter herbs, I went through an entire bottle of Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino this past July and August and half a bottle of Eau de Guerlain.
During the autumn transitional months: warm days, cool nights - I really get a lot of comfort from the smell of roses, the last flowers of the year. Rose Barbare was perfect for me this past September and I continue to enjoy it into October.
In the cooler months nothing makes me happier than the smell of amber and vanilla, I'll be thrilled to start wearing my Ambre 114 and Havana Vanille again.
Spring makes me want to smell orange blossoms, jasmine and ylang ylang - the comfort of things coming back to life.

Habit Rouge or Bois du Portugal

Creed Bois du Portugal
Eau d`Italie Bois du Ombrie

Givenchy Pi has always been my snuggle scent.
Shalimar EDC
Tabac original, Mouchoir de Monsieur have both a sweetness that make me feel cozy.
Rochas Man
I second (or third) Royal English Leather but I can't agree on Bois du Portugal. That one is more like a night out with the boys, Rat Pack-sytle, or doing Mafia business. Oh well, I guess I got a little bit too hung up on the Creed propaganda... but even without that BdP is not really a layed back comfort scent.

Old Spice
Jazz
Opium PH edt
Narciso Rodriguez for Him Musc Oil - time and time again I just dab a little on my wrist before I crawl into bed to smell it as I fall asleep.

The EDT & EDP too, but mustly the Musc Oil because it wears so close to the skin

Mine would have to do with vanillas. I'd say Un Bois Vanille, Spiritueuse Double Vanille and Vanille Aoud. Some animalic ones also do it for me, like L'Ombre Fauve.
L'artisan Tea for two
L'artisan Havana vanille
Definitely vanillas/gourmands....Musc Ravageur, Tobacco Vanille, Eau de Baux.

I have also found Acqua di Gio to be comforting in the clean sense.
D'Orsay Le Dandy.
Creed Bois du Portugal.
Michael Kors.
Parfumerie Generale L'Ombre Fauve.
Escada Homme.

I am not a snuggly kind of guy, but I find Gucci PH 2 and Bulgari PH Soir to have a calming effect on me. Does that count?
Zirh Corduroy
CSP's Vanille-Abricot or Danna Karan's Cashmere Mist are where I'd start. A lot depends on the taste of whom you intend to snuggle. Some people find gourmands, esp. vanilla, inviting while others prefer a clean-as-a-whistle vibe, for which any cologne-style frag would do.
creed - original santal

i am not a big creed fan but this is quite an outstanding fragrance....very warm and comforting

It depends largely on personal preference. About two years ago, I would have named some gourmand frags. Now, I'd say leathers like Cuir de Lancome, but that's because I find myself enjoying leather frags more than any other kind.

Blimey, there are some surprising suggestions in this thread!

Open fires, cashmere sweaters, mugs of cocoa. Surely this is conjuring images of snowy winter scenes?

This makes me think of Burberry London. Although Pi and Eau des Baux are good calls.

Rochas Man
Barbershop style fragrances are among my comfort scents: Old Spice and Pinaud Clubman, for example.
New Haarlem
Tea For Two
Rochas Man
Menthe Fraiche

One more vote for Dior Homme and Habit Rouge
post #38 of 113
Dior Homme Intense. Perfect for a cozy night at home.
I was just thinking today what a comforting scent Tobacco Vanille is. If you are looking for a "cold winter night next to the fireplace" smell, Ikon by Zirh always conjures those images for me. The best part about Ikon is that you can buy a 100,000,000,000 ml bottle for around $10. LOL

Opium Ph EdP
Sables

I love threads like this, since fragrances that evoke 'comfort' are some of the ones I reach for the most. Of course, I think that it goes without saying that most of these scents contain lavender or vanilla or they smell sort of 'powdery'. That is not to say that all lavender/vanilla/powdery scents smell comforting - because there are many examples where this is untrue. Nonetheless, these accords seem to easily 'relax' me and in turn the more that I wear them when I am relaxed the more they 'relax' me.

Mine are:

Shalimar (Eau de Cologne) by Guerlain [note: Shalimar parfum is NOT a comfort scent, it's too resinous/animalic/smoky]
Flower by Kenzo
Caron Pour Homme by Caron
Apres l'Ondee by Guerlain
Spiriteuse Double Vanille by Guerlain
Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford
Madeline by Ava Luxe [this stuff smells like eggnog, how can you wear it & not feel comforted!?]

Happy (Clinique)
Oud Wood (Tom Ford)
M7 (the drydown after 2.5 hours)
Blue Jeans (Versace)

L'Occitaine Eau des Baux

Guerlain Vetiver

Prada Infusion D'Homme
Baldessarini Ambre
Montale Patchouli Leaves
L'Artisan Perfumier Bois Farine

L'instant de Guerlain Pour Homme eau Extreme! Soft, slightly sweet, slightly spicy. Nice and warm as well and it features a beautifully comforting cocoa note.
I like Habit Rouge Beau Cavalier, Creeds Royal English Leather and L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme as comfort scents.
Old Spice EdC selling for $7.99, Reflection Man for $260, and Bois du Portugal for somewhere in between.

As I get to dress down in sweats, sit in front of Mrs. J.'s Lazy Boy on the floor and quietly finish the evening reading together, I find myself turning principally to these 3 scents and I rank them equals in terms of ''warm, fuzzy, and happy.'' That being said, Cologne pour le Soir is very good for the evening.
