muscs kublai khan or musc ravageur?

I got none of the musk out of Musc Ravageur. The bing cinnamon roll opening and then...zero. I think it's some sort of anosmia on my part to that scent. I don't doubt that many find it fantastic.

MKK, I wore a couple of times and it continued to provide a creamy musk, but lighter on me than on a friend of mine.

Kind of hard for me to pass judgement on MR since I literally couldn't smell it.

well, I can only speak of Musc Ravageur. Honestly it's not very unique, it feels like Urban Musk by tom ford with a lot of sweet, creamy, powdery notes. Guess Urban Musk meets Armani Code or something? It is not very unique, but it's EXTREMELY well done.

Never thought of that before i smelled the musks by Tom Ford and never got the connection. To be honest I think a men's drydown with clove and cinnamon would smell nearly just like MR.

From what I've gathered, MR is the "cleaner" of the two. MKK is equally musky, but has an additional animalic component to it that is not present in MR.

Tom Ford's Urban Musk is much more masculine, medicinal and animalic. When it comes down to it though, I do think the musks smell similar in those two, but MR has a lot of sweet creaminess to cover it up.

Musc Ravaguer is safe, clean, rather modern-smelling, very gourmand - it really smells like a cinnamon bun. To my nose its musk note is kind of rubbery ( hard to find the right description ), but not to the degree of something like Bulgari Black.

Muscs Koublai Khan is slightly dirty, rosy, and slightly powdery in an old-fashioned way. For me most of the dirtiness happens in conjunction with the patchouli =and musk in my opinion, and if you've tried some more starkly animalic things, MKK seems pretty tame. It's a little like My Sin or some other slightly skanky, powdery fragrance from yesteryear with a touch some hippie patchouli blend.

MKK is by far the more interesting, but I don't enjoy wearing it. Musc Ravaguer on the other hand, is a little banale, but eminently wearable. Especially if you work at Cinnabon.

MR has very little animalic quality, and has a cocoa smell IMO. Gourmand instead of an animalic musk.
MKK is more animalic, but is still quite civilized. I smell a powdery rose in MKK, and nothing that would qualify as vile.
I've only got decants of these, but I've got to say that MR is a bit boring IMO, and MKK is nice, though would probably be pulled off better on a woman than a man due to the powdery rose smell.

My choice would be MKK.

MKK is "dirtier" which kind of turns me off. MR is sexier and "yummier". MR, for me is better.

Both. Doesn't need to be an either/or question. They're both fine scents, and certainly different enough that you can easily find room in your collection for both.

Im not bothered =] I never smelled anything like MR before (except Lolita Lempicka "L" by the same perfumer). I agree MR is not dirty, because it really doesnt contain musk(hence not dirty) and contain lots of gourmand notes (hence clean). IMHO, Musc Ravageur served it purpose well, to be a skin scent(safe) and sexy at the same time.

On the other hand, for MKK, quite a lot of musk fragrances did this kind of musk before. Original Musk No.1 for example.

I have both MKK and MR and enjoying both on different occassions.

I agree.

Also, I find the musk to be lighter in MR, and mostly prominent around the opening. Later, as the scent develops it shifts to some of the other, more gourmand notes. Whereas in MKK, the musk is there throughout and much more forceful

No, this is something else. A scent blindness. I wore MR several times, and never got the musk out of it. My nose can be dense at times, but other lighter scents hang all day on me to my nose. Have similar problem with BdP and MpG Santal Noble.

Musc Ravageur smells like Nestles Quik on me. However, I tried the perfume oil and like it much better.

Of the two I prefer MKK... it smells more "beautiful" to my nose. If that makes sense.

Interesting. I too love strong colognes but I notice the strength. Like kouros for example, i can smell the civet from a mile away I must hve a very sensitive nose or something.

I heard the oil is more musky and just goes to the basenotes instead of the edp.

Perhaps.... I've only tried it once. I wish I could get a sample of it. It was less sweet on me than the edp, which I preferred, and reacted much more positively to. I'll have to annoy some SAs for a while, I guess!

MKK in terms of concept is interesting, I consider it "liquid art" but it's not very wearable. Overall as a perfume, I'm steering closer to Musc Ravageur between the two.

I have and like both. Each does its distinct thing brilliantly with lots of musk. MKK if you want animalic and sensual. MR if you want gourmand spicy.

Off topic perhaps, but I'm just curious and have to ask: What's the problem with the letter O in this specific fragrance??? So many times I see this silly misspelling around here. C'mon, it's not that serious, but please try to get that name correct next time! This outstanding stuff deserves it.

I believe Sugandaraja was spot on with his comparison. I too find MR not musky enough to justify its name though I get a little more from the oil version. MKK is indeed dirtier but doesn't suit my style. Btw, has anyone tried layering these two?

MKK would be my choice between the two.

PM - I had to go check my bottle for spelling and you are correct! I have been mispelling this for years now. Why does almost everyone mispell this? I also have trouble with using a "c" instead of "k" in the muscs part. But I would have argued the ou vs u in Koublai until you pointed it out. Thanks for the edit! Muscs Koublai Khan kicks it!

The character of MR and MKK are both very different. The former is a really sophisticated, classy scent covering undertones of fiery spice. MKK lets its animal all hang out, but unlike MR, beneath it all is a warm, beautiful rose. I like them both and I would choose the fragrance depending on the situation. If I'm after an intelligent, classy lady, I'd go with MR. If I'm after a fireball of a woman, I'll be MKK!

If before you try it you read many/most reviews you will be very disappointed. Some reviews lead you to think that both fragrances are animalic to pornographic levels, fecal and dirty.. well they are not. They are indeed not your everyday fragrance and both are musky but wearable. I find MKK more potent and in your face and MR prettier. The truth is that all the fuzz fades away rapidly leaving you an floral, vanillic amberish dry down.

I did but they gave me their new one only, which I will not complain about but I will not bother them anymore. Thanks Basteri, I am not a floral guy so I guess i will stick with mr.

MKK hands down for me. Sampled both, bought full bottle of MKK. Having seen the general praise for MR I must dig my sample back out and try again (remember it as being a bit of a disappointment at the time).

This is exactly what I was just going to write, with the added note that I also have a back-up bottle of MKK, even though I rarely wear it. I just want to always have it. Even if I come around to appreciating MR, I doubt it will ever inspire that level of response in me.

Tried MR again last night.........concur with my original assessment that MKK is in a different league. I too, do not wear it often, but it is one I would always want a bottle of kicking around.
