Fragrance Import Duty

Oh dear just been stung. £21 import tax from a $150 order from Fragrancex. I kind of expected this from their neg feedback though Ive had no problems twice before. I was just happy they turned up after 6 weeks!
Then today yet more: £25 for a $175 order from Lucky Scent. I must admit I expected more of them especially considering the hefty International shipping costs I had to pay.
Anybody any advice on this? Is there any way of getting a refund or has the horse bolted? I would have saved money buying them in the UK if Id known. Oh well...

Fragrancex is often taxed here in Brazil too. It also takes a long time to arrive here - from a month to two months
I usually pay 60% of custom taxes here in my packages - so i always hate when i got taxed...

The only store that i know which makes taxes refunds is strawberrynet. It seems that feelunique also do the same - but they are in UK, so you won't be taxed if you shop there.

Sadly theres no way around it unless whoever you are buying from lowers the value on the customs declaration . Buying from the US is a huge no no for me purely for this reason , and no you aint gonna get your money back no way no how

Oh dear, I thought maybe if I complained to Lucky Scent being a biggish company they might refund a bit. Never mind, looks like Ill have to take the hit, though I think these companies should show a bit of customer care and warn you.

You certainly have my sympathies. I too had to learn the hard way, and now I limit myself to low value purchases from the States, normally samples. If I am looking for full bottle purchases, I tend to stay within the EU. My Darwin Award purchase from the US was a bottle of Patou Prive for $255.00 You can imagine what I paid when that arrived.

Still, you live and learn.

Must have been painful! Seems youre better off buying small and slipping under the radar. Is there a similar customs charge for EU countries or just the US?
Mind you, I paid £50 for 100 ml of P de Empire, so with the shipping and £25 its only just over the £80 UK price I suppose

One of the benefits of being in the EU is the exemption from duty when trading within it. You will however have to pay fees on anything bought outside the EU. When I bought the Prive, Customs in the UK ripped open the package as they were suspicious. I had to pay for the repackaging along with the duties. I am also not patient enough to wait the time required when ordering from some suppliers in the States. I am not normally a fan of the EU, but in this case I will make an exception

Well at least they didnt spray it and decant it for their other halves! ( or did they? ). Big purchases from EU now then - lesson learnt - the perfumes had better be good when I pick them up!

Im sorry to here about the gouging you took. There doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to the taxing. Ill consider myself very lucky then. I havent paid anything.

Import taxes suck! Once I ordered an electronic book from the US and the import taxes on it were MORE than the price of the electronic book.

Import duty is bad. Once I ordered a metal i-Phone Case from USA, the import duty was almost double the payment.
