What is the best/strongest Rose scented fragrance?

Thread Starter
Hey there =)
I am looking to get some kind of rose scented fragrance, but I dont know of any...as I happen to be a guy. Anyhow it needs to be very much rose, but not much else. I know there are frags that have rose oils in them, but I need one that is mostly just rose. So what would you suggest?

Une Rose by Frédéric Malle would be my top suggestion. Very unisex.

Another good one is Creed Fleur de Thé Rose Bulgare.

If you can tolerate a few more notes, then I suggest the following which are also unisex:

Diptyque L'Ombre Dans L'Eau (Bulgarian rose with blackcurant leaves; excellent)
Montale Black Aoud (rose + oud)
Czech & Speake Dark Rose (another woody rose); they also sell Rose but I think it is inferior.
Eau d'Italie Paestum Rose (a spicy and woody rose)

If you don't mind that it's less unisex, then a very fine rose is Annick Goutal Rose Absolue, which is based on 6 different roses, and it's just rose.

Try Andy Tauer's Incense rose and Une rose chypree. Beside Montale's Black Ous you should try also Hammam Bouquet from Penhaligon. All of them are full of roses

Serge Lutens' Sa Majeste la Rose is a realistic, incredibly strong rose.

From our Penhaligon's swap thread-- fragrance notes for Penhaligon's Hammam Bouquet (I don't tend to think of this as primarily a rose but it does have rose in it for sure):

top notes: lavender
middle notes: orris, jasmine, otto of rose
base note:\t sandalwood
category: fresh, aromatic

Tigerflag has some interesting things -- a rose attar, very strong. I like the Parfums de Rosine line, some are more true to the rose soliflore than others, though. Malle's Une Rose is a good one. Many people seem to like Perfumers Workshop "Tea Rose" which is very ros-y, a little green, too, as if the leaves had been mixed in, and it can be had for practically nothing.

Une Rose by Frederic Malle is definitely my first pick for a strong rose. After that I'd go with Sa Majeste la Rose by Serge Lutens.

Grès Cabaret.

Lyric for Men by Amouage would be my number one pick.

Black Tie by Washington Tremlet is number two.

Montale's Crystal Flowers is a beautiful rose fragrance. And for a department store recommendation; Stella by Stella McCartney, the Rose Absolute version.

Keiko Mecheri's Mogador is a very strong, true rose with something darkening it a bit. It is on the sweet side, don't know how you feel about that.

I'd definitely pick up a bottle of Tea Rose -- it's rose, rose, rose, and it costs around $12! If it's too much for you, you can use it to blend with other fragrances to bump up their rose quotient.

Lots of great Roses out there. I tend to prefer peppery, spicy roses such as EldO Rossy de Palma or OJ Ta'if.
Also rose chypres like EL Knowing or SL Rose de Nuit.

Sa Majeste la Rose by Serge Lutens is what you want.
Rose Poivrée from The Different Company

La Rose de Rosine by Les Parfums de Rosine is wonderful .
I like spicy masculine roses and I've been on a rose crusade lately sampling a bunch. These are at the top of my list:

Le Labo: rose 31 (my favorite, peppery rose, very wearable, smells great)
Serge Lutens: rose de nuit (2nd favorite, strong and complex)
Czech and Speake No# 88 (I want this, very wearable, unisex)
Penhaligon's Hammam Bouquet (my bf wears this, nice for fall/winter)

@ViViD,

Lots of good suggestions so far; especially the Le Labo, the Serge Lutens,

However, looking at your wardrobe, I suggest:

Paris by Yves Saint Laurent (and a couple of its flankers)
Stella by Stella Mc Cartney (and Sheer Stella, and the Rose Absolute)

Voleur de Roses by L Artisan Parfumeur
Rose with an earthy feel with wet patchouli smoky nuances

Creed Fleurs de Bulgarie by Creed
This one is sweeter with amber and musk with an oily base

these are the most distinct rose scents in my collection

Another vote for Serge Lutens' Sa Majesté la Rose. Love and own this one. An incredibly realistic rendering of a dewy, moist, freshly-picked rose. It does open with a fairly strong blast of citronella, but this calms down, and the scent remains fairly linear from then on. Like most Lutens, it has good longevity and sillage.
I'm altogether less enamoured of Malle's Une Rose - the fungal note really does little for me, and after a couple of hourse, the whole thing turns rather foetid on my skin.
Le Labo Rose 31 has a very prominent cumin note, which again, is not my cup of tea. The rose is also more of a background note, I find. Still, it has many fans here.
C&S no.88 just reminds me of rose musk stick sweets I ate as a child. Incredible longevity. Good for vampires.
L'Artisan Parfumeur's Voleur de Roses is perhaps worth checking out. Again, it does have something of a 'decaying' note to it though.

I'll add to what will (likely) be a very l--o--n--g thread. Thank goodness, the list of rose perfumes = ad infinitum.

Guerlain Nahéma
top notes ~ rose, peach, bergamot and green notes in alliance with fresh aldehyde notes.
heart ~ luscious hyacinth, Bulgarian rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine, lilac and lily of the valley.
base ~ vanilla, passion flower, Peru balsam, vetiver and sandalwood.

Houbigant Quelques Roses
"different varieties of roses from all over the world each with its own unique rose note is combined with a bouquet of different flowers and is finished with just a hint of fruitiness."
I lOve this one. It can be hard to find but it's around...google for online stores that carry it or try eBay.

Annick Goutal Rose Absolue
"a floral rhythm from six kinds of rose. Seductive bouquet dazes with scents of rose de Mai, Turkish rose, Bulgarian rose, Damask rose, Egyptian and Moroccan as well. Intensive and powdery."

Annick Goutal Ce Soir Ou Jamais (Tonight or Never)
"delicately sweet, mysterious and very natural; it awakens love in the heart. The gorgeous Turkish rose is surrounded by ambrette and hibiscus."

Calypso Rose by Christiane Celle
notes ~ iris, clove, freesia and rose

Hmmmm... Serge Lutens Sa Majeste la Rose did not do it for me at all.
I'd personally prefer Caron's Or et Noir over Malle's Une Rose. I think Or et Noir is the better rose, more interesting, greater depth and darkness and has much better longevity. It's a parfum extrait and marketed to women (in case you bother). It's a so-called "fountain perfume" and available from Paris or other locations (only Caron stores) via telephone.
My rose craving led me to Amouage Lyric Woman (it's not only about rose in this perfume) and I dearly love it since.
Serge Lutens Rose de Nuit is a very "sophisticated" and quite special fragrance. Maybe not what you are looking for in the first place.

May I suggest the following?:

- Rose Noir by Byredo
- Midnight Out by Juliette has a Gun

Lyric Woman is stunning

Hefty rose fragrances- YSL Paris and Estee Lauder Knowing. Love them both!
YSL Paris - Nahema - La Rose de Rosine - Annick Goutal Rose Absolue - Stella Rose Absolute - Bulgari Rose Essentielle - Jo Malone Red Roses!
All mostly rose, all gorgeous!
I think Paris its the perfect roses powdery of all time
post #26 of 30
I adore Creed 's Fleurs de Bulgarie . It's pure rose with some amber - lasting and gorgeous. It's worth a sniff. On my skin it's mostly rose and It's wonderful when I'm on a rose kick.

Go classical and try out "Joy" - Jean Patou. There is mostly rose and jasmine. It's a timeless one.
+ 1 for Joy !
Also By Kilian's Rose Oud. Don't let the 'oud ' bit turn you off. It's a most beautiful smooth rose and the Oud is not like Montales.
Rose, rose and more rose. And a darn high quality rose, at that. Of course, I am talking about: Lyric Man.

It's far rosier than the likes of Rose 31 et al. The other scent that is as rose prominent as Lyric Man is Stella, but it's far simpler and far lower quality. Still, a nice scent, but not in the same league as Lyric Man, and I'd say harder for a man to pull off, too.

There are lots of beautiful rose blends, but if you want the smell of a pure, strong, dew-drenched rose, I don't think you can do better than Velvet Rose by Sonoma Scent Studio.
